War just came back home.

World in Conflict, a beautiful love-letter to tactics and explosions, is available now on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com

A hail of artillery pierces tanks and grocery stores, as homes, terrified men, and boys burn under sheets of napalm. Retreat? Never. These are your homes - and you've said your goodbyes fifteen seconds ago. A stunning flash engulfs the now radioactive pit formerly known as Jamestown High and for a few seconds there is silence. But the battle rages on, a dozen blocks down, and your attention is needed elsewhere.

World in Conflict is one of a kind, really. It's an RTS that succeeded in becoming both action-oriented and incredibly tactical, easily accessible but challenging, and a beautiful spectacle of war. It wasn't the first to do many of the things that make it brilliant, but the combination of small-scale tactics on huge battlefields, and the sheer destructive force at your fingertips is unlike any other. You're put in control of a small squad of infantry, tanks, air support or artillery - just one part of a larger clash. Dynamic single-player missions will take you through the various roles and locations in every battle, keeping you constantly at peak intensity as you defend the United States from an onslaught of enemy forces - and then execute a counter-attack in the Soviet Assault expansion.

Commander - three minutes until the second nuke is primed.

The bonds of war and terrifying firepower at your fingertips, World in Conflict is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

Vythonaut: Don't want to panick anyone, but if I remember correctly, even the WiC demo had some sort of DRM, SecuROM or Tages. I'm searching about it right now & I'll report back.
No faith and all paranoia.

Matruchus: Officially no. But you can set up a multiplayer lan game with bots which kind of acts as a skirmish.

IronArcturus: Does the game have to detect a LAN, or can everything be done manually? Are there multiple maps to use?
Yeah, it seems you need a so called maasgate online account to use that feature and since the servers are shutting down in october its kind off non existing then. Maybe some other people can say more about this.

That's too bad! I was hoping there would still be a way to do some kind of standalone skirmish mode. But thanks for the info!
Windows 10 is not compatible with many DRMs (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/08/17/windows-10-safedisc-securom-drm/; although there seems to be a particular setting for running games with DRMs). So I guess that many game companies might start considering to release DRM free versions of their older games.
Apparently this has a 18+ rating in Germany? Seems unusual for a RTS game. Does it feature any violent cutscenes or anything like that?

Looks pretty nice, but I'm not a big fan of the genre, and prefer Fantasy or Sci-Fi themed settings for that kind of game.
Nice to see a not even 10 years old game being added as complete edition and without regional pricing. Good job!
Complete editions have gotten that rare now that it has to be added to the game name even when there was no incomplete version before? :P

And the game seems to be a good one. :) Definitely have to look it up.

Edit: Obviously a German version of this game exists, so the release is not that "complete". :(

Only nukes exploding over towns... :P
HOLY SHIT.

I've wanted to see this game on here for years. One of my all-time favorites. This is fantastic.
On the Game Page it says that after 6th of October only LAN Multiplayer will be possible. I've already own the german special edition and i think LAN was only possible after login to the Massive Server or whatever.

Besides, this would be a perfect game for GOG Galaxy Multiplayer...

@Charles Grey
Es gab zwei deutsche Versionen. eine Zensierte und eine ab 18+. Atombomben, Napalm und Giftgas waren wohl etwas Zuviel für USK16... Darstellung im Spiel ist jedoch nicht anders außer der Farbe des Gases

The-Business: "MULTIPLAYER NOTICE: Online servers will be shut down on the 6th of October 2015. After that day multiplayer will be possible only through LAN."
Oh come on..
So they have now released it here.. to die.
Gog = Graveyard of Games?
Or maybe it's a kind of afterlife XD

Btw, how's the SP campaign?

JudasIscariot: We don't unbundle games unless we absolutely have to.
Is that sarcasm? I'm not sure if I can laugh about it. :/

There is. Playing multiplayer with bots (On lan I believe.) And anyway, this is the sort of game that will end up on gameranger for MP. There is no reason why you would need an online account to play LAN either.

You have to play to see, no joke. Trust me, it has a detailed plot followed by intense gameplay right after.

Get into work. First screenshot shows my place of employment and an explosion two blocks away.

Yeah, bought.

Yeah, I really wish GOG had not unbundled a ton of games for no reason. Games like the Battle Isle series used to only have one installer, now it has multiple.
