Meteor shower. Stop. People are dying. Stop. Send help. Stop.

The 2001 first-person 3D shooter Venom. Codename: Outbreak, a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. spiritual predecessor by GSC Game World, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows.

You are sent to investigate the site of a meteor shower that left no survivors - after the scientists, followed by a military squad, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Could it be aliens, or just a form of mass psychosis? That’s for you to find out.

In Venom. Codename: Outbreak your squad will be a very candid affair - just you and another soldier to watch your back. Fortunately, everyone on base is the best of the best and the AI of the game’s NPCs got many a word of praise, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about them not doing their job. Should something start to go wrong, you can easily switch characters and take control of your partner - or play through the missions with a friend in 2-player LAN co-op mode. Sometimes, this will be one of the keys to getting through a mission alive.

Try to solve the mystery of the valley showered with meteors in Venom. Codename: Outbreak DRM-free at GOG.com - and most of all, try to get back alive.

What does the press say?

“Crawling across the forest floor to tag a one-shot kill on a guard whose head was barely visible in a tower at 186 meters is a thrill unlike any other.” -- GameSpy

“Outbreak seems almost surreally whimsical in its treatment of a special forces vs. alien conflict.” -- Game Over Online

“Codename: Outbreak is a fun game. Especially the later missions in the campaign which are particularly atmospheric and intense, requiring careful picking of character skills and meticulous execution of strategies.” -- Play.tm

Maighstir: So.. is it "Venom. Codename: Outbreak" or "Venom: Codename Outbreak", this is important.
On my retail hard copy it's : Codename: Outbreak

They dropped the Venom prior to first release.

GOG's title is the correct one.

But they use both in their post. One as the thread title, the other in the main post body. :)

EDIT: The game page uses Venom. Codename: Outbreak, so I'm guessing that's what is correct.

Yeah, I mean the game's page one.

EDIT: Sent info to Konrad in order to fix it ;-)

Wow, I've never heard of this FPS before! How is the game?

In my opinion: really mediocre. To be fair, I've never completed it, yet I doubt that the latter parts of the game can compensate the first ones.

Aww, really? That's too bad. But is there a way to run the game in a window by any chance? I can't find any info about it on PCGamingWiki.
This looks nice. Might be time to snatch that gravy up.
I love it when GOG releases obscure-yet-interesting games like this. Keep 'em going!

By the way, I noticed that while most of the screenshots are in English, at least two of them are in French. You'd think they'd either all be in English or either showcase all supported languages, so I can only assume it's an error.
I have never heard of this before, which really surprises me.
Seems pretty cool.
Cossacks 3 will be released end of the year but Cossacks 2 still not available on GOG.

Hover Ace, and [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/alexander]Alexander other GSC Game World titles we're waiting for.

Now those games look cool! Is Hover Ace similar to the Wipeout series?
I wanted to play this game since the first review in Game.EXE magazine. Somehow I missed first pirated discs on Gorbushka and afterwards my PC was upgraded so I lost my chance. Now GOG gave me another try and I thank you guys! ;)

OMG fine. I haven't bought anything since the Drox DLC & Kholat in the first part of the sale. Nice candidate for those of us in withdrawal. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, TFTB! Oops. :)

It's not that bad, finished it long time ago, one of the few FPS I really enjoyed.
