Niggles: 6-8 hours is pretty much standard for these types of action games not even taking the price into account?
Dunno, doesn't seem like that to me.

Mortal shell - EUR 24.99, I'm 11 hour in (stalled), 14 % achievements, about 1/5 of the whole game considering the number of bosses.
The surge 1&2 pack - EUR 40, but that's for two games + there are probably some DLC that are extra... let's say EUR 25 for each. Surge 1 took me 67hours to finish, 2 85h
Lords of the fallen - EUR 29, stalled about halfway through the game after 35 hours

8h for souls like game in comparable price range seems really weak. Maybe just biased sample? In which case I'd like some counter examples.

Going by your numbers, you need longer than the average player, so you probably will also need longer for this game.

Quite possible, I don't speedrun those, I savor them.

Btw same site puts Thymesia at 16h30m, which could mean authors just sell themselves really short (sample size of 1 player though, it's too new to have reliable data). Still on the low end.

mk47at: I have to agree with amok. If something is described as gruelling I'd rather not buy and/or play it. Why not advertise it as tedious and awful as well?

BreOl72: Some synonyms for "grueling" that the two of you have chosen to ignore:

challenging,
demanding,
difficult,
exacting,
formidable,
hard,
hellacious,
herculean,
killer,
murderous,
testing,
tough

So, basically the same as the "Souls" games, which are so adorned by parts of the gaming community.

Definitely not my style of game - but obviously a lot of other people enjoy their masochistic gameplay...to those I say: "have fun!".
Even though words have synonyms, different words have different meanings. and "grueling" have negative connotations. if they mean "challenging", then why not put "challenging"? Thats just me, though, I prefer when people have clear comunications, and not just to try to be fancy for its own sake.

anyway, probably not the right discussion to have in a release thread, it is enough for me to know that the game starts giving me negative feelings even before I see it or know anything about it, which is not something that should happen if they want to make me interested or entice me to buy.

Well, only good that you left that out of the release thread. ;)

lets call it creative feedback to the team that makes the marketing blurbs :)
I watched some reviews of this game and realized it's way too short and has way too few levels, only 3 levels and maybe 5 if you count two optional levels.

Might be worth it at $8.99 USD or a price like that, but not at it's current price.

And regardless of price, one would probably be better off just playing a real Dark Souls game instead, and/or Elden Ring, since those games are both way larger and also way better than Thymesia is, presuming one could get over the DRM-infestations that those games have, since they are only available on a DRM platform.

The examples given by me were not speedrun times.

Sorry, should have used "rush" instead of "speedrun", as speedruns have very specific meaning. Doesn't change any of my points.

BTW, that is Thymesia demo they show a speedrun for.

Sigh, if people on the GOG forums could only be bothered to take a closer look before they feel the need to comment...

THIS! There comes a point when certain games cease being fun and instead resemble a part-time job!

I used to have something to prove in my youth with my gaming prowess, but I'm now at the age where I don't need to, and just want a game where I can actually have fun, not using it as an allegory to represent my personal worth...

amok: Is not "grueling" a negative description? I am not sure I want to play anything described as grueling, seems like the oposite of fun
The EU doesn't have a "tense" rating, gog had to go with the higher descriptive for legal reasons.

Oh, didn't notice that. But at least this way no one will miss it like I did.

I Tend to find fighting strong enemies and losing many times, more fun than fighting weak enemies many times and winning, personally. I'm guessing grueling is refering to the former, so this is a positive for me.
Thank you very much. :D
