Dohi64: so we're paying for graphics now?
Don't we always :). There are free versions of
all kinds of stuff but the graphics are usually lacking (often other stuff too, although there are some good quality ones like
Super Tux Kart).
Mahjong solitare is my favorite of these games (looking at Wikipedia it seems it isn't the
true mahjong). I like
kmahjongg which has a Windows version (
direct link). It has 72 layouts if I counted right and you can set it to randomize the type each new game.
Tangram is also great (anyone who got the Itch Ukraine bundle there is one called Temple of Tangram which is an odd game with a bunch of bugs and one of the songs is a bit suicidal but also clearly written by someone who doesn't know English all that well. The pacyderm song is exellent and there is lots of tangram fun.). For physical versions, there is a two person set that I really enjoyed growing up.
I grew up considering solitare to mean not just what Wikipedia describes as "patience" (I've never heard any game called that until your comment) but what they call "Klondike" (the main game of Microsoft solitare, I think they had a few variations). The one you mention I think we just called the peg game. But yeah, the general "solo game that could have a physical version" seems like the best definition to me.
