huan: I've had the "device lost" error exactly once. 2 or 3 more CTD's without device lost message. In 29h playtime. Guess I'm lucky with hardware, but for me the game works almost fine.
Some more anecdotic evidence. I've had one more device lost, and at around the same time my chrome started crashing with out of memory. Some leaky wiki page or something - chrome was eating about 5G out of my 16. That's still above the 8G minimum, but other processes eat something as well, and I suppose high detail deserves more than specified minimum too.

In short - check your free memory, very few applications deal correctly with "out of memory" situation.
