Trim the sails and roam the sea.

Tempest, an open-world action-RPG about plundering the seven seas with your battleship, is now available for Windows and Mac, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 33% launch discount.

It's easy to romanticize the pirate's life: quests for legendary (also occasionally cursed) treasure, unrestrained killing and debauchery, unapologetically bad hygiene, the promise of endless adventure. But to indulge into all this, you must first tame the sea, which is nothing if not a cruel, demanding mistress.
Start by getting yourself a worthy vessel. Take good care of it, upgrade it, then roam the ocean, visit dozens of islands, and undertake dangerous quests. In your journeys you will do battle with enemy warships, sink galleons, and even lay siege to impenetrable forts. Stay vigilant, for giant monsters also lurk these waters, waiting to drag you down into Davy Jones' locker. But take heart, captain! You are armed with more than mere cannonballs: you have flamethrowers, mortars, mystical crystals that grant you the power to bring down meteorites or summon terrible beasts on your enemies. And of course the greatest weapon of all: your salty grit.

Grind your black teeth, grab the steering wheel, and get ready to face the Tempest, DRM-free on GOG.com. For some epic music that will keep you in a sailing mood even when not playing, don't forget to grab the game's Soundtrack.
The 33% discount will last until December 11, 10:59 PM UTC.

It looks good enough in the screenshots/video. Also, the ship customization screen looks sweet (I dig cutaway presentations) although the UI is somewhat.. "mobiley".
low rated

Echoing other sentiments, I want to see how much depth there is to the single-player content.
So far it reminds me of a space shooter but with sail ships.
Colonel RPG on YouTube has made whole bunch of videos for the game, so far I'm not that impressed with the variety of the game. I hope there are more maps for one thing.
The price is nice though.

Watching a German let`s play now, seems like the game is optimized for multiplayer, so meh for singleplayers!
Oh, and controls are optimized for touchpad, so big no go for PC players!

Fairfox: "Open world" makes me nervous (in a decidedly non-nervous wai); s'lieeek, unless teh devs are really on teh ball with this stuffages I think open world can be really badly 'n' lazily implemented 'n' just get borin' with little to do (or taht kind of 'make your own goals/fun' situation). Imma not a big advocate of teh AAA devs/titles overall but at least many o' tiem they 'fill' their (open) worlds. As long as smaller devs don't do it just for taht laze factor. Still, totes makes sense for a sailin'/ship gaem to be this wai so Imma keep a look-eye on its reception. It looks perdy.
Not entirly sure but my gut says I should agree to the drunk post above :P

If that means that "open world" should not just big but also meaty. Generally spoken; do not know enough about Tempest to know if that applies here.
Oh, interesting:
The game is cheaper on GoG than on Steam!
Looks interesting
The trailer music doesn't fit at all, in my opinion.
I'd rather play Age of Sail or something like that.
Not enuff info, so I wishlisted it for nao.

Yes, I played 1987 and 1993 versions. It is a great game indeed, but not the same genre as Age of Sail.

Oh, you didn`t play the version from 2004? Get it, it`s on GoG. :-)

Falkenherz: Based on Shakespeare?

Sorry, couldn't help it. One of my favourite plays from him (her?).
Yeah Tempest is great, I read it back in highschool lol :D
Haven't seen it in theatre though.
