Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans a hulking addon for the open-world space sim, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. If you don't have the game yet, you can also pick up Starpoint Gemini 2 at 75% off and the Secrets of Aethera DLC at 66% off.

Things are about to change forever. The titans, an experimental class of hulking destroyers, are the ultimate goal of a brutal arms race that has swept across the Gemini universe. Three warring factions are about to make their final stand for domination...
Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans is more expansion than simple DLC. It features three new end-game campaigns (one for the Baeldor baronies, The Nyxia consortium, and the democratic Korkyra) as well as a whole another level of power with three unique Titan-class ships that can pretty much single handedly decide the fate of the universe.

The ships look like ants from your Titan command deck in Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until Saturday, November 21, 3:59 PM GMT.

IronArcturus: Yeah, I would like to know about this as well. I've read that Startpoint Gemini 2 is similar to Freelancer, but I've never played SG2 before.

micktiegs_8: I'm hoping this gets both of you. SG2 has it over Rebel Galaxy for the fact you can fly in any direction. The music fits the theme, unlike the cowboy rock blasting in my ears all the time in RG. You chose a class of character in SG2, and can level up. This lets you increase the effectiveness and add effects to your class' abilities. You can have 2 wingmen in SG2 but only after you reach certain ranks levelling up. Troops can also be sent from your ship to take over enemy ship, allowing you to grapple it and choose between cashing in, or adding it to your space garage. Troops can also be sent into installations (not sure about main space stations) allowing you to syphon some cash from it. The local faction will lose relation, though.
I've only played sandbox at the moment, so I just fly around, mission notifications pop up (with an audio as well), check the map and choose one, boost over to it, and so on.
It's kind of hard to compare the two, but I listed some things that RG doesn't have.
The DLC is great value, too.
This is sounding pretty good. You mentioned having only played sandbox so far. What kind of goals can you have in Starpoint Gemini 2 just playing the sandbox? In Rebel Galaxy, I was disappointed to find that the only things to really work towards were finishing story missions and grinding for money for better equipment when the story missions got too hard. This was especially bad since with most of the equipment the only difference was bigger numbers. Everything else in the game was so shallow that it just felt like different ways to grind for money. Rather than feeling like a proper open-world or sandbox game, Rebel Galaxy just felt painfully stretched-out to me, and so I got bored and stopped playing.

Thanks for the help!

I've been playing SG2 for a while and the Freeroam mode is basically the sandbox. The game is pretty interesting. You can spend the whole time just shooting space pirates, or you can go to science stations and scan various anomalies like in Star Trek. There are multiple ships to fly, but apparently most of them are very expensive. It looks like you can do trade routes as well, but I'm not really sure how to determine the best way to make money.

Graphically, the game is gorgeous! The nebulae really stand out and the sweeping musical score really fits the mood. The player can literally spend hours just exploring! For those of us that have been waiting for GOG to get Freelancer, this game really fills the space void!

Siegor: How is the game regarding twitch reflexes? The game looks quite good but I'm not getting any younger and just like too sit down, relax and explore at a relatively slow pace.
I'm born in the early 80s.

SG2 also has automatic targeting. A twitch finger really isn't needed, so long as your ship is strong enough.

So far I've only done 'Assassination - kill or capture a target ship', deliver a load of goods from A to B (don't sell them by accident), patrol at waypoints for baddies. I can't remember, it's been a little while.

It's interesting how many different factions are in the game, and they all like or dislike you depending on where your reputation is. I haven't experienced what it's like to have a faction really like me though... these things don't happen in an instant.

Keep in mind that there isn't any empire building, or overly in depth trading stuff like the X games. I really should have called it free roam, as IronArcturus did. You can mine asteroids with torpedoes, and stations do happen to change regarding supply and demand. You'll also find interesting news regarding bounties - these don't show up on the map as far as I know, and you have to go by what the news (or your log) tells you. The bounties are quite rich if you manage.

My advice, is to try campaign/story first and learn as you go through that. That's what I'll be doing instead of trying to teach myself in free roam any further :)

It's too bad that SG2 doesn't allow the player to communicate with individual ships or allow the building of bases. But the game is still pretty good overall.

Me too (82 to be precise). So I guess it's doable.

Looking at the Game Press page they link to it appears they want (wanted, the news is nearly 6 months old) it on Steam Early Access by the end of the year. So maybe we could be looking at this by mid 2016.
Makes me feel a little shiver. Big ships and my own fraction space. Dreams.

IronArcturus: does the game work better with KB+Mouse or does it need a joystick?
Starpoint Gemini 2 plays perfectly with a mouse and keyboard.

No, we are not catering to Steamboi crowd. The only reason is that Steam has Early Access program and it's an excellent way to keep the community in the loop and shape the game with them (at least it was our experience with SPG2). And SPG2 would not be the game it is today without fantastic support of community.

Of course there were some epic fails and ripoffs in Early Access, but we didn't choose that path.

As for Steamboi reference, what is that? Some kind of Steam fanboys? Maybe there are people that have wet dreams over Sony, Steam, GoG, but majority of people I've met there are normal gamers. Especially in our community both on GoG and on Steam.

I'm on Steam for 8 years, I have over 1k games there, but I'm also on PSN and Xbox Live, I have PS3, PS4, Xbox One, gaming laptop, Amiga 1200 and Nintendo Gameboy. Those are just tools that enable me to play the games I want, nothing more. ;) So the term fanboy is something I could understand when we talk about games or developers (I'm a bit of Bioware and Blizzard fanboy), but not pieces of hardware or online stores.
