Huinehtar: Warning for people interested in
Slay the Spire.
The 1.1 version of the game will be released (it seems to be already the case on Steam), and modders have been warned by StS players, that many mods have been broken.
On the subject: a little reminder.
Right before the 1.0 release of the game in january 2019 on Steam, mods have been hosted on github (
link of the main mod tool on github).
But since then, they have been on Steam Workshop, and even the main mod tool used to use almost every mod for Slay the Spire not only uses Steam Workshop but requires a subscription on the Steam mod webpage, all of this to prevent mods usage everywhere but Steam.
The thing is that months later, the game appeared on gog, but too late to be relevant.
But since the game wasn't updated since 1.0, it could be modded with github legacy versions of mods.
I believe gog will update the game soon, but then, all legacy mods will be broken too, and only Steam Workshop versions will be maintained by modders, so thus, no modding for Slay the Spire will be available for gog customers.
Another example of why Steam communities and worshipers aren't PC gaming, but are only favoritism for their platform and theirs only, just as console gaming.
Maybe this whole thing could have been prevented if gog could have sold Slay the Spire as
in dev when it was in early access, building the community around the game, instead of releasing the game months after original release.
Not sure if I should link my post to the "games that treat gog customers as second class citizens".
So what to do for gog? Ask for backroll and for ever use the frozen 1.0 version of the game?
This game is in a high place of my wishlist, but several facts have prevented me from buying it so far... Being released two months late, being the only platform where it has
been discounted, no GOG achievements, and now... this.
Thanks for the info. Let's hope devs change their minds and don't turn into another tinybuild/klei
