I feel drawn to these unusual settings.

I understand your feelings. The art design, the setting, the music and the narrative that the developers have come up with will appeal to anyone. Honestly, Nordic culture is rich in history and lore, with mysticism and enigmas everywhere. Just like Egyptian, Chinese, Greek and Indian culture.
