A pirate's life for me.

Sid Meier's Pirates!, the swashbuclking adventure/RPG of open-world exploration, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Who doesn't love a good pirate story? Anyone? Ok, that parrot squawk doesn't count so noone it is. But what is it that fascinates us so in these romanticized depictions of piracy? Is it the action? The adventure? The mythical treasures? The laaaadies? Well, Sid Meier's Pirates! has got all that plus another indispensable element of debonair villainy: style.

Crew up your ship and unleash your mischievous charm upon an unsuspecting Caribbean. This vast, colourful playground will soon become the backdrop to your legendary exploits as you sail, trade, plunder, swordfight, and even raid at will. Style yourself as either an agreeable privateer or a ruthless marauder and when you feel ready to settle down, make sure you don't miss the opportunity to woo a governor's comely daughter by showing off your dancing moves. Granted, parrots, hooks, and peg legs make for fine accessories, but nothing looks as good on you as the fair arm of a beautiful maiden.

Get hooked in the playfully romantic and opportunistic life of Sid Meier's Pirates!, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until April 5, 13:59 BST / 5:59 AM PDT / 8:59 AM EDT.

Fairfox: Never played this. Hmm, I have the original DOSies, omnomnom!

I did read the game can get repetitive. Is it worth buying? If we take away the "re", obvs. Can't afford it right now, alas, but something for me to keep in mind for teh futurez. I like pirates! S'probably their beards and gruff demeanour.

Aside from the cuddly ones; too cute.
It's a decent pirate game. Except the minigame that I mentioned which I found very annoying. It's similar to Pirates of the Black Cove for example.
Why english version only????

I own the old 2 CDs version english-spanish-italian, I think GOG could do better...

Unwishlisted for now...

Lodium: Ah. i used to own the collector editon of this.
The box with the t-shirt and map.
sadly lost both the map and the t-shirt but i think i still have the game cd and the extra dvd somewhere.
Very good game.
Migth buy the digital version as well.
wishlisted.
very nice.

i dont have the game , unfortunately i cant play 3d (because of gamemotionsickness)
i did own and still have the old 51/4 inch floppydisk from c64 harddisk
i think the carton box got lost during moving, but i still have the old treasure map which is so old now, it really feels and looks like a treasuremap, also have the manual, very old so it almost looks like a real pirate manual.

I played it a lot on AMIGA 500.
i have the pc version here, but i liked the first old classic better.
If i remember it correctly i paid between 69 and 89 guilders (yup thats a long time ago) for the c64 disk version
Also had airborne ranger on c64 disk (quite expensive 79 or 89 guilders)
Since 3d became more common for games, and all new games or remakes had to be in 3d (i have no idea why because, i think 3d engines are ugly).
Anyways, because of the 3d thing, i had only few games left to buy , cause 75% released was 3d, so thats why in 2002 i mainly switched to buy casual games.
2014 i discovered GoG and created an account, bought me imeediastely all the classic that i had on old retail.
(jagged alliance and more like these)

i dont know, i guess its because basically english is imho the easiest language to learn and pickup, nowadays even little kids are getting to learn english in non speaking english countries, at elast in holland and belgium , so i assume also in the rest of the EU.

Although i know my english will never be as good as the native english (or american english) speakeing, i can make myself understandable in many english speaking forums i been member of, for the last 8 years.
Being a native dutch speaker (born and raised in the netherlands) my dutch will be better (minus typos, cause everyone can make a typo), cause i wont have to translate words like i have to do when speaking dutch.

So basically english is not that hard to learn, even i was able to learn it :D
German might be more difficult because of all the der dem die das entgegen entlang , sie Sie Du
and all other difficulties. Other then that i think german language is second best to understand language after english, because of so many similarities in the language compared with dutch.
Dutch however is not that easy to learn as most of the people realised after taking a course for it.
Dont underestimate the dutch language, its harder then you think, my scores were better at english (8+) and a 6+ for dutch.
So dont use google translate or babylon or other online translators too much cause it often makes many mistakes
If you really need the proper translations for any language then people who are translators will deliver the best translations.

Yes!! This game is almost criminally fun!!

Maxvorstadt: Hm, does this version contain the one patch which made this one pirate unbeatable? I fear so!
We played through the game in its entirety and we never encountered an unbeatable pirate :)

There is one Pirate, I guess it`s Marquis de.... (don`t recall the name exactly), which became significantly harder with the patch, I wasn`t able to beat him.
Yarrr! This is definitely the best of the franchise. So this will be the... fourth time (?) I will have bought it.
