Chess - the most iconic and well-known board game in the world. Nothing really much to add that hasn't already been said.

But…

What if almost all your pieces went to the white side and left you with just one, BUT EQUIPPED WITH A SHOTGUN. Now that sounds fun!

Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate is now available on GOG alongside its soundtrack and presents us with just that. It’s a unique strategy roguelike based on the timeless checkboard classic.

Every turn, you may either move your king or shoot at enemy pieces, after which you'll need to move again to reload your shotgun. Avoid checkmate and kill the enemy king to complete the floor. After each floor, you may choose between two random combinations of one upgrade for you and one upgrade for the other side. Choose wisely and keep on winning floors and you just may get your kingdom back.

Runs may take ~20 minutes to complete. The game features 15 ranks of difficulty, unlockable cards, an endless mode, and a chase mode where you get continually assailed from all sides!

It's time to teach those white pieces to fear the Shotgun King

Is there any difference in the GOG version versus the itch version? Additionally, on the itch site, I am confused as it says the purchase there gives access to the file, but also comes with a Scheme key. I don't care about the Scheme key as I reject DRM platforms, but just curious if the file if bought on itch is DRM-free.

Would I like to check the figures mating? No, sounds too sleazy for me.

Honestly looks like a chess game suitable for us who feel like drawing a gun while playing proper chess.
