Ashnak: I'm just curious, do you guys really have friends coming over to your house with their windws 7 machines to play some random 10+ years old games via LAN?
No, we don't do that. We are a little smarter than you and we know that with the help of technical instruments a virtual LAN can be established via the Internet between two (or more) computers located as far away as you want (even on different continents).
And yes we have such friends who live in other cities/states and yes we play 10+ years old games (and you can check out the top games by current players of Steam gamers - there are enough games in list which are 10 and more years old - Terraria for example. Or Diablo, one of the top selling games here at GOG, still allows you to play MP over LAN).
And most importantly - games that support such a mode can still be played, unlike many others where servers have long been shut down and the companies themselves have been gone for years. Which will inevitably happen to this remaster sooner or later. And we will have a game with a non-working multiplayer. But the original will continue to work.

A reminder that the original version was once part of GOG Connect. You know, that thing that let you claim a free copy of the game if you owned it on Steam without having to worry about buying it twice.

A little too pricy for what is essentially a graphics patch and some censorship.

A welcomed addition.

I can somewhat understand not adding LAN multiplayer to a new game inasmuch as developers are lazy and want to lean hard on APIs, but dropping it from an existing game is an unpleasant regression and one I can only assume has to do with someone in the head office wanting more control over the plebs.

Probably gonna sit this one out unless the guy I'm trying to get interested in doing a co-op run insists on Galaxy for some reason. The base game is great but this apparently comes with a net loss of features and the graphics upgrade isn't nearly as noticeable as, say, something from 2002 getting the fancy shader treatment.

Kyousuke.: Wait, what? you can't save remapped keys?
Nope. As soon as you leave the game the settings get forgotten. Its a thing that the either SR3 or SR4 had too but they had the flimsy excuse of being released on gog looooooong time after their original release so nobody really expected any kind of effort beyond making them work. But that same old bug carrying over to a rather new-ish release kind of sucks. Mostly a minor annoyance for me since I'm used to most of the default settings; but its an annoyance nonetheless.
So at some point, I just sat back and chilled. Boom, I had the remastered Bloodraynes. I'm probably not going to download them any time soon, but it's nice knowing that owning the games got me their newer versions without paying extra.

But I can't justify a 65% discount on a remaster to something I already own, and don't even know what I will get in return. The online bits are the most infuriating though. The online was completely missing for the original game minus LAN multiplayer. Now to get access to online for Saints Row the Third I need to pony up some extra cash.

I'm not against devs putting food on the table, but I feel like they're selling this remaster as a solution to the nonfunctional online parts of SR3.
the port is masterful, but the specs are a little too steep for my toaster PC. i'll buy it in the big sales in a year or two.

Did you check if the setting files aren't write protected? It feels very strange, I tried to google this issue, but wasn't able to find much about it...

Ran into the same problem when launching the game without Galaxy, but when I launched it through Galaxy the settings seems to have been saved properly. After that, I can launch it without Galaxy and the options still get saved.

I'm guessing the game can't create the settings file without Galaxy's help for some reason. Once the "%LOCALAPPDATA%\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\53610945248137475\Storage\Shared\Files\sr3DEF_PROFILE" file exists, Galaxy doesn't seem to be necessary anymore

At least, if your issue is the same as mine. Which seems likely.

Still needs to be fixed though, but at least we have a workaround.

EDIT:

Nevermind, I thought I had closed Galaxy but it was just minimized. Seems that the game needs Galaxy running in the background to access the settings file. If I leave Galaxy running and launch the game from its Exe, my keybinds are there.

But if I close Galaxy and launch the game, it just loads the default keybinds. If I open up Galaxy again and relaunch the game, I get my keybinds back.

Highly annoying, since I just use Galaxy as a downloader/updater and don't want it running in the background all the time.

Same; its minor enough that I won't keep that overblown download manager running in the background but its good to know that it is kind of possible.

Well, imo it is really bad that GOG obviously only test their games with Galaxy and not without it because otherwise they would have found this bug as well. Unfortunately it is not the first time something like this (Galaxy needed for the game) happens. I am quite sure it was not intended and I am also sure they will fix this issue asap but @GOG for future releases: check FIRST if the game is running fine WITHOUT Galaxy and THEN test if Galaxy features are working as well. The game itself will always be the most important thing. You have DRM-free written all over your page so if even by accident a game does in fact need Galaxy it will hurt your reputation no matter how much you love Galaxy yourself.
