Your personal guide to the galaxy.

Rebel Galaxy, a swashbuckling space adventure from the developers of Torchlight, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy achievements and a 10% launch discount.

Action, exploration, discovery, trade, diplomacy. Can you ask for more in a title about the fantasy of space?
How about power? You're in command of a hulking, terrifying star destroyer. You will traverse the outer reaches of space doing what you can to get by - whether it's fending off or hunting pirates, exploring the unknown, mining, or scavenging - all the paths and choices are yours. Your riches can be wisely invested, or spent on a few more guns and a bigger chassis. But the huge universe open before you may just be more than you've bargained for. Just... Try to survive without blowing up everything.

Well, maybe you could also ask for a killer soundtrack. Done.
Check out the launch trailer, and set off on the biggest adventure of your life:

HereForTheBeer: The trailer tells me bupkis about how the game is actually played.

IAmSinistar: You're right. It's a lovely video, but gives you Sweet FA with regards to gameplay. Is it Homeworld? Star Control? Master of Orion? X? Nexus? All I can tell is that it's laser-laser-something-laser.
I THINK it's like the Assassin's Creed ship gameplay, but in space. More action oriented but with some RPG / adventure aspects.

Bigs: Badger x 12 Mushroom x 2?
Unlocked: It's A Snake!
Looks interesting. Not for 20 bucks, though.
Cannot find a save/reload option anywhere. Also no manual (Controls seem to be easy to learn, but sometimes you might want to look up stuff like "how do I save/reload") :/

Ah, thanks. I was hoping for something more 4X / RTS. Wishlisted for now then.

Oh no not even close to that. Think action RPG where your "character" is a ship.

Generic Space Game Trailer 283.

To be fair it's not only this title, and many many many release trailers do the same thing: quick snippets and flashes of action, some pulse-stimulating music that may or may not be part of the game, and nothing about how you play the thing or what to expect beyond the explodey bits.
Right now its a bit like Freelancer (But with Ships not Tuna Cans :P). You have your Ship, go do missions, shoot & loot, talk with creatures at local bars.

Found the "save". Autosaves at docking. A proper Save & Reload appears to be not in it.

edit: And it has chilling Rock music :D

Whoa, not what I was thinking at all. Does sound interesting though, but not a priority for me at this time.

Think DarkStar One meets Freelancer (in the sense that you can change ships - in DarkStar one you were stuck with one evolving ship).

That makes sense. Again, very different from what I thought, but not necessarily a bad thing.
This guy in the promo screenshots though...

Is there any sort of crew management in the game? Can you hire new crew members with personalities or anything?

So it's a more tactical game like Nexus: The Jupiter Incident?

You can hire mercs to fight alongside you, but otherwise it is a one man ship. Most of the descriptions so far are pretty accurate: Freelancer's open galaxy to explore with Assassin's Creed pirate ship combat and RPG-ish equipment and upgrades for your ship. The game itself plays on a flat plane, instead of in full 3D, so no flying up and over opponents, just circling around each other, pounding the shit out your ships with broadside cannons.
