FPS Immortals are here.

Quake II: Quad Damage, Quake III: Gold, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny - are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. You can pick them up at 33% off in two bundles:
Quake Damage & Return to Wolfenstein.

Wolfenstein 3D (with Spear of Destiny) is widely considered to be the first true 3D FPS ever. It single handedly kickstarted a generation of id Software greats, and thus influenced just about every FPS we've played ever since. Its mazes, shades of gray, and blue hues are burned into the collective gaming memory - plus you get to kill a mechanized Hitler. Classic.
In the early days of FPS gaming, Quake II: Quad Damage was the milestone. In a spot-on review from 1997, GameSpot calls it "the only first-person shooter to render the original Quake entirely obsolete." It was bigger, better, prettier, and smoother than any clone or predecessor - it also offered one of the most playable, and by far most popular multiplayer experiences of its day.
Quake III: Gold, aka. multiplayer revolution. Despite a controversial removal of the lauded single-player experience the series was known for, Quake III: Arena became a smash-hit and (together with Unreal Tournament) essentially defined arena-style, movement-based competitive gaming for years. The shooter spawned a community that's been living and breathing to this day.
In B.J. Blazkowicz's Return to Castle Wolfenstein, another legend is born. A unique, objective-based multiplayer mode saw immense popularity back in the day - and it was actually pretty okay if you're into that sort of thing. The single-player campaign is a dark, somewhat ridiculous freak show of morbid, scientific fantasy. An ever present sense of dread emanates from the disturbing experiments and cult-like universe, just waiting to be set afire - by you.

As with any Bethesda purchase, you'll also get The Elder Scrolls: Arena & Daggerfall for free!

Prepare to fight in Quake II: Quad Damage, Quake III: Gold, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny - now DRM-free on GOG.com. Return to the FPS immortals at 33% off in two bundles: Quake Damage & Return to Wolfenstein. The promo will last for one week, until October 8, 12:59 PM GMT.

The four titles released today are not available for purchase in Germany. These are legal restrictions that are beyond our control, and we're very sorry for the inconvenience.
Old time favs finally arriving on GOG, i'm so happy :D

Now if i could only buy them :P

moonshineshadow: they are selling Harvester, Mortal Kombat and tons of other games on that list here. So why not Quake. This just does not make sense.
I just wonder about a situation that has no logic.
Different publisher, whom didn't requested that gog didn't sell to germans. In this case Bethesda did.

avatar
omega64: It is allowed in film/books though right?
Yes because the german law consider those as art/education. Unfortunately, the same german law doesn't consider games as art/education.

IAmSinistar: Already noticed and edit my post about this. You probably missed it in the forum lag.
That's correct, sorry for this.

SpecShadow: Quake1 on GOG have music (based on description), does Q2 have one (can't find one)?
Yes, see https://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_quake_ii_iii_wolfenstein_3d_return_to_castle_wolfenstein_b1348/post62

Grargar: The GOG of old wouldn't release those games at all. But now that GOG has decided to include regional pricing, all bets are off.
I'm sorry, but in this case I don't think it's a matter of "new" vs "old" gog.
This is a matter with some country having unjust laws. And I don't think the whole world should suffer because one's country/state/region dumb, unjust and plain wrong legislation.
I'm so very glad these games are finally here. I've been waiting to finally play the game that everyone was playing other than Unreal Tournament back in the day, which was Quake 3

I hope to see Quake 4, Quake Wars, Doom 4, and maybe (hopefully) even Hexen and Heretic some day ;)

Klumpen0815: What are the prices?
Wolfenstein 3D Bundle - $13.38 (reg. $19.98)
Quake Bundle - $20.08 (reg. $29.98)

Prices are in filthy American lucre. Guessing these are regionally priced, but perhaps not.
Ah, goddammit! I'm tired of all these stupid indie games that nobody ever heard of!

;D
Am i the only one who see Judge Dredd on the Quake promo banner ?
avatar
Zoidberg: Wow, those are hilariously overpriced. :P
avatar
Klumpen0815: What are the prices?
I can't see them. :(
Quake 2 $9.99
Quake 3 $19.99
Wolf3D $9.99
Return to Castle Wolfenstein $9.99

IronArcturus: Will the new game forums for Quake and Wolfenstein be uploaded soon?

Thiev: As soon as our Product Minions get home probably. We had some network problems today at the office.
Hello, can you please tell us if there will be some release for us germans too this day? Because we really don`t feel very good about beind kept out of todays releases!!!

shmerl: How is Return to Castle Wolfenstein in Wine? In the past it required some hacks to define old versions of OpenGL in env variables and such.

There used to be native Linux versions for it as well: http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/wolf/
Tested this a long ago and I do remember some bugs and some little lag. Besides that, game ran fine.
Heck, we even have a new (I guess you can call it that way) linux game published by Bethesda!

Now, about the oldies, lemme say: Steam machines are incoming. I'd love to play some Wolfie on those, natively :P
Holy fuck!

I think GOG should mark this wish as "Solved exclusively in Germany" ;)
I feel bad for the Germans (not the ingame Germans :p). Still, for them there are alternative ways to buy the games anyway.

Regarding the price of these new releases, Quake 2 and RtCW are the only ones that have a fair base price in my opinion. The old Wolfenstein should be $5.99 and Quake 3 is insanely expensive for a game that came out in 2001.
I remember sneaking into the company I worked for during college in order to play these games on their computers. LOL

omega64: Do Quake 2 and 3 require the same crap with mounting an iso to have any music?
Nope! See the first attached image (Quake2M)! That is, unless GOG is required to swap out the ogg files in favor for another solution in the future.

Also, interesting how they have a launcher (Quake2L) included with Quake II. Seems the GOG team packed in more features from just Quake II + Ground Zero + The Reckoning.

Are you suggesting another region lock but this time the other way round ? ;)
