In the sands of time.

Predynastic Egypt is now available DRM-free, 50% off until October 31st 2pm UTC.

Before claiming the top of the civilizations pyramid, the Egyptians had to deal with plenty of ground-level problems: decimating epidemics, conflicts with enemies of the state both on the inside and outside, taming the land. Witness their impressive progress in an epic turn-based strategy that begins in 5000 B.C.

You can check out the demo first.

A hint for the future: Egypt: Old Kingdom, which will be released next week, has no such limit :)
Good to know...I'll have a look at it. :)

he is not tense, you are. There is no turn limit, except on the demo, what is the big deal? what are you going on about, forbidden by law, 40 years...geez...

gamesfreak64: wow , why so tense ?
have i said something wrong by asking ? i have read many replies developers gave me on various boards, in emails, when asking game related questions , but your's is different .... wow... never had one like this... so tense...

to answer the question:

no... i read some replies telling about 17 turns .. i often read what other gamers have to tell, about demos and games(doing that for years now ( 20 years at least and before internet was common i read many game magazines , the paper ones (¬‿¬) spend lots of allowance and money on those magazines because they informed about games, rated games and 99% of them were always accurate .

Is it forbidden by law (⊙ ﹏???﹏⊙) to read replies , read (paper) game magazines, by games with coverdisks ( demos and sometimes full games) lateron with a cdrom or dvd demo disk... then i sincerly apologize for reading them and buying them (╯︵╰,)

Playing games for > 40 years and reading magazines, i have seen many games played many demos and bought the games.... i asked many many questions on as many boards, online game shops and no one complained.

Anyway its okay sorry i even asked .... i got the friendly message ... ...

Hi, since even the demo has the achievements and they are separated from the full version of the game, is it possible to complete them all or would I get stuck at a certain percentage?

You only can complite a part. You can help to us maybe. If you will post all achievments what can be posible to complete in demo version we can to turn off other what can't be completed.

This is a great idea, I'll play the demo as soon as possible before starting the full game and I'll point out what I unlocked.

Surely it's not possible to gain every achievements in the demo. Which is a bit strange.
Maybe also Deadmarye can help us.
Looks like a nice strategy game. Wishlisted for now.

Sure ! So I started a game in the demo and selected the middle option for the three column (+1 Final Score each).

I can confirm what musturiuz said : The game stops after building The Sanctuary of the Falcon which was done at turn 37 for me (again, I'm not great at 4x).

To the contrary of the full game where reaching the final turn limit (Turn 220) lets you continue in Free Play, in the demo reaching that point means it's over. You can either start a new game or quit it, meaning that any achievements you could gain after The Sanctuary of the Falcon cannot be obtained in the demo.

What I got during my normal playthrough are the following :

-Scout (Scout Any Region)
-New Knowledge (Discover any technology)
-Permanent Settlement (Build the Field of Grain)
-Bronze Falcon (Get the Bronze Victory in the Sanctuary of the Falcon Trial.)
-Silver Falcon (Get the Silver Victory in the Sanctuary of the Falcon Trial.)

Regarding the Falcon achievements : it might be possible to get Gold Falcon and Divine Falcon (Complete the Sanctuary of the Falcon trial without spending food or production) too.

Now, I believe any other achievements to be locked out of the demo :

-Every achievements tied to a trial are obviously unobtainable.
-Achievements regarding doing X things (Create x Workers, Achieve X ressource per turn, build x thing in x region)
-As well as those about exploration (Trader, International Trade, Good Soul, Diplomat, etc) since you do not have access to the map of Egypt.
-The ones related to Turns (4000 BC, 3600 BC, 3300 BC, 3060 BC)
-Of course, any achievements related to winning the game (Winner, The Master of Fate, Wise as a Warrior, etc)

In a very long grind, it might be possible to get "Follower of Horus" (Honor any incarnation of Horus 100 times during all games) but that's not recommended in the demo.

One might also look into "Friend of the Gods" (Achieve+10 or more authority growth per turn.) I'm not sure it's possible in the time available but I could be wrong.

Any more informations will be gladly taken ;)

I tried the demo. It's a nice game. I'm still not convinced that I'll like the full game (the turn limit thing), but at least the demo says that you can keep playing after the turn limit is over. So I'll buy it after all. Mostly because I like the way it was released (with a Linux version and a demo).

But what I didn't like is, that I got a challenge that was impossible to finish from the get go. The challenge was 'Build the Horus shrine in less than 10 turns' - but building the shrine takes at least 15 turns. Is that a bug? Or is it supposed to be impossible? Or is the player supposed to be prescient and start building the thing at least 5 turns before even getting the challenge?

Nah, I think you missed the tutorial explaining you how to do it.

So, when the challenge appears, you can click on the Horus sign on the left side of the screen (should be purple), here you can accelerate the construction by sacrificing your ressources (like 10 food, or 10 construction) and there's no limit on how many time you can do that per turn. So if you had 100 food, you could reduce the construction by 10 turns.

Most of the challenges let you do something similar.

Also, normally, when the challenge starts, you get a prompt saying that Horus changed his name, you can now use the "Honor" option to pray Horus and accelerate building construction by 2 turns.

It's easily doable that way but yeah, I wonder how you're supposed to construct that Sanctuary without giving ressources for the achievements =)

What I didn't like in the game was challenges of the sorts, I needed to construct particular Tombs that can only be constructed while the challenge is active yet I wasn't prepared at all in the previous technology entries so...I missed all of them.

But I guess that's part of the game, failing and starting all over again to improve yourself. I mean, my first game lasted 5 hours and I'm still eager to play more. Don't let that Turn Limit turns you off, 220 turns is largely doable. I managed to almost win (by one tribe missing) in my first game.

i for one don't mind the demo showing all achivements,
given that on GOG we can't see the achievements of a game before buying it,
and that usually gives a good idea of what to expect of a game,
in this case the rest of the game.
(personally i kinda like to see those before hand)

hope this makes a good case for the keeping of all achievments.

Yes, you make a good point. I like achievements and it buggles me that I can't see them before buying a game. The demo route is a nice way to let us see what we can get. I haven't thought of that =)

To see all the achievements of a game, you should see those present on Steam, they are almost always identical.
Recently GOG has added the opportunity to see the most popular achievements, which is not bad because it allows you to get an idea without spoiling too much the game.

As there are many ways to know which achievements are present in a game, I prefer by far the possibility of being able to complete 100% of the achievements, although only for a demo, so I still think it's a good idea to get rid of the obsolete ones.
