Brought to you by GOG.com

Pacific General and Fantasy General, the accessible, Panzer-like grand strategy classics, are available now DRM-free on GOG.com!

Pacific General, available for Windows, is a spiritual sequel from the studio behind the acclaimed Panzer General series - an improvement over the classic, but one that retains the same feel and concepts as its inspiration. Once more we return to the overhead battlefields of World War II in a series of quick-play scenarios and full-blown campaigns: everything from Pearl Harbor to hypothetical invasion scenarios is here, all packaged in a relatively newbie-friendly grand-strategy package. Fantasy General takes that same experience and sets it in a fantasy universe. This one's for you if you're a fan of large-scale hex-based battlefields and steampunk-infused fantasy. Fantasy General is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
Pacific General and Fantasy General are being published by GOG.com. We are happy to release these titles not on behalf of another party, but by acting as the sole publisher for the very first time!

Unleash your inner armchair general with Pacific General and Fantasy General, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com!

timppu: Maybe the NOLF games next? :)

silly big publishers. no biscuit. this kind of thing makes me sad.

squabbling like a bunch of kids over who gets the money. it just makes them look worse than i already think they are.

Barry_Woodward: Since they're not doing anything with the IP and their primary focus in PlayStation, do you think they'd let GOG publish the PC games?
avatar
Grargar: I don't know. They are sitting on other Psygnosis games, not doing anything with them.
Not that I *ever* envision Sony of releasing any PC games, but they actually have made use of at least one Psygnosis title through the years... Wipeout, most recently as a Vita title... Of course, Liverpool is closed now, I think shortly after Wipeout Vita was released.
And so, the quest to publish all old games begun :D

viperfdl: GOG now publishing games brings new options to deal with with steam:

GOG: "We have Panzer + Fantasie General."
Valve: "We know."
GOG: "You want it?"
Valve: "Yes of course!"
GOG: "How about you bring Halflife 1 + Addons DRM-free to GOG.com and we release Panzer General series on steam?"
Valve: "Deal!"
avatar
Trilarion: That would be the best. :)

Hope it will go this way. The more options the better for everyone.
That would be nice to finally see the Half-Life series on GOG. But would it be possible?

Well, as Gaben said, "Exclusivity is a idea bad for everyone"! :P

Personally I hope GOG was/is able to buy the SSI AD&D games from Ubisoft, and is then able to come to an agreement with Hasbro for a new licensing deal. (assuming GOG is more reasonable than some of the "big" publishers ;)

Really wish people didn't turn this thread into those "pleeeeease gog publish that old game" ones.
Let's say hurray for a landmark in our drm-free lives instead of being so selfish (I'm kidding) :P
Would also love the original Panzer General, preferably the DOS version, Allied General, People's General and optionally Star General (more for the sake of completion, as the game was underwhelming compared with the rest of the series). Also, the other 3D Panzer General would be nice:P

Split personality? He probably meant to say that "exclusivity on other services is bad for your service".

I fudged up the quote. It actually says "bad idea" like I edited in above, so perhaps he thinks it's actually good in practice, just bad in idea.

exclusivity is bad for everyone except, and hypocritically enough, for valve itself. they will /never/ let anyone touch half life or portal or any of their games.
Why hasn't the Discworld series been released digitally yet? Who owns the rights? Perhaps GOG can make it happen.

Discworld
Discworld II: Mortality Bytes!
Discworld Noir

Great releases!

But the much more exciting news is that GOG acts as a publisher now. Guess that it makes it much more likely to see some lost gems here in the future.

Will definitely buy the two games to support this move!

Gaben pls. :(
Awesome news! Fantasy General in particular...one of the best soundtracks ever for a strategy game too. I played it again last year on my special retro P2-350 (Win 98/Dos dual boot PC), who needs DOSBOX when you have real DOS? It's a pain in the ass having to pull out all the wired PS2 mouse and keyboards though.

Maybe Allied General will come soon? The Russian campaign in AG is one of the best in the entire series. I managed to get it running this year just fine on 32 bit Vista, despite it being a an early Windows game (Win 3.1!). Good luck getting it to run on modern 64 bit Windows though. Maybe that could be a problem for AG becoming a GOG release? Same goes for the superior Win version of Panzer General.

Whilst we're with SSI, the Great Naval Battles and Age of Rifles would be a great release. And how about Necrodome for something completely different?

Deal with it.
