The Call of the NES.

Odallus: The Dark Call, an authentic, modern and polished throwback to the feel and ambiance of the NES, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com!

Odallus: The Dark Call is a terrifyingly authentic throwback to the metroidvanias of old on the NES. It's a game that not only draws inspiration from titles like Ghosts 'n Goblins, Demon's Crest and Castlevania, but could easily be mistaken for one of them. For fans of days past, this title should have it all. At its core, the game is designed to recreate the ambience and feel of all the old school classics - for example, the graphics adhere strictly to the 8-bit limitations of game development back in the day. Odallus: The Dark Call makes the limitations its own, and combined with open, modern day design and responsive controls - it gracefully straddles the line between extremely old-school and extremely playable.

Peek through a highly polished window into the glory days of metroidvanias in Odallus: The Dark Call, available now DRM-free on GOG.com! If you can handle it.

Hell yes! Insta-bought!
Looks neat, still waiting for a Shovel Knight sale though :P
Nice release, thanks GOG. It looks really good and I'll give it a shot sooner rather than later.

(Any chance we're getting Interstellaria Friday? The dev [and I] would be thrilled. :)

This seems like Castlevania 2... only good! :P
Seriously though, a game based on the earlier Castlevanias and not on the post-SotN ones is very welcome, especially since I like them way more than their relatively newer installments.
Also, the style reminds me a bit of Berserk, which -what a coincidence! :P- is also my favourite manga.

I'll have to get it later, but this is definitely a must buy.

If the soundtrack comes bundled with it, that may raise the thrill-o-meter to level 3. ;)
So...anyone got this to work on WINE?
I like pixels like every other nerd, but I also like more than three colours per sprite. I don't get this obsession with NES graphics, they were adequate for their time, but seriously, they are ugly. Every sprite was limited to four colours from the palette, and if transparent was one of them it was down to three colours. Here is a great article where a guy takes NES sprites and recolours them using only the NES palette, but without the restriction:

The only good thing about NES sprite is how small they were, the hero did not take up a fourth of the screen and you could actually see a good portion of the level. Of course that's the part the developer did not copy.
Wishlisted for now. :)
