Hm,...the first "Metal Slug" game that piques my interest.
I agree: nice pixel art.

Edit: btw, GOG - are those strange screenshots deliberately chosen?

Looks cool but... trailer has both "roguelite" and "110 handcrafted maps", so what is it exactly ?

If I understand correctly from reading/watching reviews, this game is run-based, like most roguelike/lite games, with a run consisting of a small set of maps one has to complete. Many run-based games generate their maps procedurally. This one does not; instead it picks the maps from a predefined superset of 110 handcrafted maps. To play all 110 maps would therefore require multiple runs.

That's my understanding so far.

These are mp4 videos, not still images (jpg/gif). Maybe your browser is just displaying the first frame of each video?

Yeah. Right-click -> Play works for me.

Gave it a short check - looks like that's the case.
WTF..?
What does "roguelite" actually mean? If someone dies the party is soon wiped out forever?
More like "Mehtal Slug", amirite?

You have reinforcement points (start with 5, get up to 6) and three party members. If somebody gets KO'd you can revive them by spending a reinforcement point. It acts as a 1up credit and revives them in a radius on the map with half health. If you win a map anyone who is KO'd is revived at full health for the next mission. If all three party members are ever KO'd at the same time you lose and must start a new run.
Start a new run? On the battlefield or entire game?

What do you mean by "run"?

In general i do not like "rogue" mechanics, i prefer having "secure" save files because it simply gives me nothing being able to completely "fail" a game at some point.

The game essentially plays like a turn based version of Metal Slug. If you life all your lives you start over. Unlocked regions stay unlocked each run so there's a level select of sorts. You lose all equipment and levels but you get money depending on how well you did that can be used to buy permanent unlocks like starting load out. It's a fairly short game with only 4 regions. You can unlock higher difficulties to fight stronger and different enemies. If you don't like roguelikes you won't like this and if you don't like Metal Slug you definitely won't like this.
Ah now this is right up my street.
