I just hope it's not an underperforming unity title,
(seeing the choppy trailer has me worried...) as too many indie devs have too big an ambition for that engine's capabilities, they'd do well with using unreal for large worlds vs small 3D/2D games as that's unity's strong suit!
Dohi64: I keep hearing people say this but unity games run a lot better on my shitty pc than unreal stuff, and that includes 1st-person adventures, not just some small 2d things. I'm sure it's more about the developer's competence than the actual engine, which is easier to blame than doing your job properly.
Yes it does have a lot to do about competence, but even so, Pine, subnautica, eastshade, and even fire watch have great developers yet still had performance issues, maybe it's just that unity hates AMD CPUs but every large-scaled unity game that I own has had performance issues, my specs:
WIN10 64 20H2
AMD 3900x
64Gb GSkill DDR4
RTX 3090FE
Asrock Taichi x370 vrs 5.80 bios
No matter what setting I chose I still get performance issues, with eastshade for example, I would have 90+ FPS and as soon as another area chunk loads it literally drops down to 20 frames! My guess is that they had too many assets loading within that area chunk, instead of dynamically loading/unloading assets like with subnautica's world...
Even so, with subnautica, you still get severe pop-in with assets constantly loading every 3 meters, just google performance issues along with games I mentioned and you'll see I'm not alone as that illustrate unity's stability issues, whether it's due to the engine itself or inexperienced devs, and/or both it's still an issue all the same!
And yes due to such a low bar with entry, you will get a glut of overly ambitious inexperienced developers that make these unoptimized games, and even though it is really free and easy to develop for unity which is great for devs, it's not for the end-user, it's disheartening to see all these great and outstanding games falter with bad to worse performance issues!
So yeah, there are scores of excellent unity games that have performance issues is what I'm concerned about... so I'm not trying to bash unity, but I'm still concerned with the game as this may be yet another case of an inexperienced/overly ambitious Dev that doesn't take the engine's limitations into consideration.
