Impossible is nothing. If not fun!

Impossible Creatures, an outrageous RTS that lets you "mesh" around with animal DNA and build your own mutant army, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it now with the 40% launch discount.

Noah put two of every animal in the Ark. This was cool at the time, but now along comes Rex Chance, a '30s war correspondent, curious to see what happens when you smush two animals into one. Why? Because DNA fusion is fun, and because he thinks there is great untapped potential in these strange pairings. Unfortunately, so does Upton Julius, the megalomaniac villain who stole the mysterious Sigma technology for himself, and is now threatening to conquer the world with his own army of mutant beasts.

Collect animal DNA, build your own unique units, and defeat Julius and his evil lieutenants in 15 different maps stretching across jungles, deserts and snow-ridden landscapes that make up the mysterious Isla Variatas. Create your own menacing winged scorpion, adorable kangaroo-shark, angry horned bear or any other Impossible Creature you desire - the possible combinations are only limited by your own imagination (or gross-out threshold). Then, go online and test your DNA-fusing skills against other wannabe-mad scientists in three different multiplayer modes.

Play God in this 3D hybrid of strategy and creativity, as your Impossible Creatures march forward, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get them now with a launch discount that will last until next Thursday, December 3rd, 1:59 PM GMT.

Licurg: there was also a patch before it that added 10 more animals, including dolphins and mammoths . See if that's there too .
I'm fairly certain I've seen mammoths in game ;)
avatar
Miljac: My thoughts exactly, I am installing it right now, and will let you know, if someone else does't ninja me

Licurg: Apart from Insect Invasion, there was also a patch before it that added 10 more animals, including dolphins and mammoths . See if that's there too .
The game includes three "mods" in the "Mod Selection" menu:

Impossible Creatures (the base game...no I don't know why it's in the "Mod Selection" menu either...)
Insect Invasion
and something called "RockPaperScissors"

:)

tokisto: I never played or heard about this one before, but it got my attention...
So Judas, do you know if runs fine on Wine? ;p Thanks
Well...the results are old but here you go...

I'll check on my WINE version, though :)

Goran84: Codename: Panzers pliz????

KubisForce: We are working on bringing that back... :)
Any word on whether we'll ever see Cold Zero: The Last Stand? :P

I remember playing that game and I always thought it never got the appreciation it deserved :)

KubisForce: Yes, you are right and I wanted to re-release that but it has some serious problems with modern graphic cards and systems.
Ah, that's too bad :( While it's not the most impressive game in terms of graphics, it certainly was quite good in the gameplay department :) Here's hoping you'll be able to get it working :)

vv221: My old CD works flawlessly on WINE, I’m going to give a try to the GOG version soon ;)
Not if I beat you to it :P

KubisForce: Well, for its time it was quite ok graphically. Back then it failed because it was 3D and 2D still looked more beautiful.
Ah yes, now I recall that transition when 3D was still quite new and it had to compete against 2D offerings :)

tinyE: Wait wait wait....not so fast.

I just tried to combine a beaver with a duck, make it warm blooded and yet lay eggs.

The game told me that was too 'impossible' even for a computer game.
Have you tried combining a duck with a beaver instead? :P

WINE 1.8-rc1 is my current WINE version.

You will be able to play the single player game just fine BUT the game seems to be affected by this WINE bug. I say this because the first thing that pops up in my termina; is the following error"

err:ole:COMPOBJ_DllList_Add couldn't load in-process dll L"C:\\windows\\system32\\dpnet.dll"

Googling "dpnet.dll" brought me to this page: http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlay

So no multi-player under WINE but the single player mode works quite well :)

vv221: GOG version works flawlessly on my Debian SId with WINE 1.8~rc1 ;)
The ./play.it script for the game should follow soon…
But did you test the multiplayer portion, though? :)

vv221: Not yet, I take on the task immediately!
edit to avoid misinfo: the English version's multiplayer will work after using "winetricks directplay".

JudasIscariot: See my previous post, please. I don't think it will work unless you have some magic trick that makes DirectPlay work under WINE :)
avatar
vv221: You might want to try 'winetricks directplay'. (you need to have winetricks installed of course)
Didn’t work for me, but you might have more luck ;)
Well, it worked for me...after I read about it on the WINE DirectPlay page :)

I was able to create an account and I saw a player named "Samso" online :)

vv221: Hmm, I can’t create an account from the French version of the game, but I get some errors related to missing strings. I actually don’t get a field for an e-mail adress…
I’m going to give a try to the English version.
Weird. Well, I am using the English version, so there is that.

Also, are you attempting to play multi with the Insect Invasion portion enabled or just vanilla Impossible Creatures?
avatar
JudasIscariot: (…)
avatar
vv221: Forget what I said, I entered a nickname when I was asked for an e-mail ;)
Everything is fine now!
And this is with the French version, right? :)
avatar
JudasIscariot: And this is with the French version, right? :)
avatar
vv221: I guess I’m beginning to suffer from lack of sleep…
And that’s because of *you*, GOG!
Hmmm I don't see anyone holding a gun to your head :P

vv221: You’re holding Good Old Games (at cheap prices), that’s even worse!
This isn't an Insomnia sale though :P
