BreOl72: So you are aware that "real" Lightguns aren't really a thing anymore in today's world (bar any old tech, one may still have available at home).
Good.
duh, hence why I say that's we can't called these light gun games anymore, that technology will never be used again for modern games.

That's why intelligent people have come up with modern alternatives for "real" light guns.
"Light guns" that work with modern hardware.
That's what Mr Mumbles was referring to, when you asked out of the blue "when was the last time you used a "real" light gun?"

It doesn't matter if you see these new alternatives as "less good" as the "real" light guns - for people who have no old tech stored away, these new "light guns" are the only way to play such games in basically the same way as the originals.

Reports appear that the Sinden Light Gun works with this game. Some people have issues but I have seen developer notes that they will work to improve it. (Don't know if I can direct link to the developer comment.)

So hopefully they will provide more support and it comes here.

Edit: Okay I'm going to stop now I'm sounding more like a product shill, apologies to all.
if only i coud buy or order one but it seams im too late this time around
Sure there is ebay but i feel its a little pricy there for a used Sinden Light Gun
maybe later

You can't even use the word light since these guns to not sense light. They work with one of the following:

1- Motion sensing (the less accurate kind) which is what this game uses on the Switch
2- Motions pointing which can either require:
a) You to follow a visible or invisible crosshairs in case of a basic set-up like a Wii sensor bar
b) You can shoot anywhere without crosshairs because you have sensors all around your monitor

That last one is the closes to what classic light gun feels like while still not being an actual light gun.

Actually the Sinden lightgun has a camera in it, so does indeed sense light. In fact, the majority of the time I spent setting mine up was playing with the light sensitivity options. So that it can "see" the screen and not be overpowered by other light sources.

It takes over the mouse, which can be hidden though a macro for most games (if you bother setting it up), as opposed to be a separate device though. With the mouse hidden, you shouldn't see crosshairs with the majority of games.

It may not work in the same way a traditional CRT style lightgun would and setting it up is a real pain initially, but it is a indeed a "lightgun" in the sense that it does see "light".

Side notes for anyone interested in the Sinden Lightgun:
I ordered mine in the summer of 2021 and it came in Feb 2022, so there's a bit of a wait time.

There's a fairly active small community creating patches and maintaining a wiki (for example, I just read on the steam forum that a patch for House of the Dead Remake was released that fixes the Sinden issues[Single player only at this point]).

In general, 2 Player support is only available with a few programs.

Setup is not as simple as plug and play, you will spend a fair bit of time initially with the software and in most cases tweaking the programs/games.

Once set up properly, it's very accurate and fun. Wish I had gotten the recoil pack but didn't realize that it could be turned off through the software.

Has anyone tried this house of the dead with a touchscreen or graphics tablet and pen?

It looks like it uses border lines the same way the nintendo wii used the infra red lights in its "sensor bar" to track the position. I haven't found out how it calculates or outputs it's control yet.

To quote the creator of it: "Clever Maths". You actually need to use your TV measurements in the software.
I updated my previous post if you're interested in my thoughts on it.

Look where I put " " around the word real to indicate REAL light guns (aka: not the alternatives), and where I put " " around light guns, to indicate ALTERNATIVES to light guns (in the sense of "air quotes", aka: not referring to the real deal here).

Maybe I should have only boldened the real, and put the quotation marks only around the "light guns", but I think if one puts a little thinking schmaltz into it, one will be able to notice something in regards to constancy and meaning with my usage of the " ".

Stop calling them light gun, find another name.

Navagon: This reminds me of the Die Hard Trilogy game. A new Die Hard based game could be quite good. Especially the third one.
I remember playing the Diehard Trilogy, I think it sucks. Why people like that game?

Die Hard Trilogy was terrific fun.

I wonder how this House of the Dead remake compares to the original?

I didnt think Diehard Trilogy was that bad
sure it wasnt great either but not terrible or bad enough to suck

The basic design is still there, with all of the elements that made the PlayStation version what it is. The controls are the worst part about the game. You can either use a mouse, joypad or keyboard. Each is particularly useful according to whatever story mode you're playing. For example, the mouse is perfect for Die Hard 2: Die Harder while the keyboard is good for the other two. However, the joypad control is very flawed for this game, especially in the Die Hard With A Vengeance mode. Your car doesn't turn well as if it was on water!

The game sounds pretty good overall, with some dramatic and action-packed music. Voices are done decently and really keep the pace moving. All of the catchy phrases from the movies are here, as well as some convincing environmental effects. Not the best, but really good considering the type of game that it is.

Without the patch the game suffers horribly. With the patch, the game is decent but still worse compared to the PlayStation version, which doesn't even have the benefits of hardware 3D acceleration like those for PCs. So whatever happened in the transition, it just didn't make it all the way across.

Oh yeah I remember playing the PSX version and got frustrated with the game. So there's a PC version I never heard of.

I'm actually quite shocked at how common this was in both the PS1/N64 and PS2/GC/Xbox eras, when going through different platforms this past year, I've encountered so many games that actually have downgraded PC ports. Many times have I seen console versions with better controls, better lighting, better effects, more dynamic audio etc, and once upscaled in an emulator, with the exception of the occasional title with higher res textures on PC, end up being the better versions overall.
