Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

MarkoH01: I cannot contact you in chat because of your privacy settings. But whatever. Maybe others would like to try Doki Doki Literature Club as well. It was recommended to me and I played/read it a bit.

Yeah, I've played a bit myself and love it! Also, I don't really do chat as I suck at typing...

Wait, what? GOG likes visual novels now? ... Cool. Thanks for the freebie. I never minded VNs other than there usually isn't much meat to them, so I appreciate those that actually combine other actual game genres with them. ;) Also, thanks for the freebie.

Impaler26: So GOG only has the censored versions of the Sunrider games?
Actually, all the "necessary" patches can be gotten from the official website as they merely drop the missing files into the game. Seems to work just fine for the freebie offered.

<< Got no shame. =P

Gilozard: This selection is not bearing that out.
Well, there's Hatoful BF if that's more to your liking ;D
I'm guessing the monster girl games or "quirky taste" novels like The Key to Home will still no show here, though.

Nothing wrong with that. :P

Look at my posts. Nearly every single one is edited ... because of typos. Whenever I am on discord people typed three lines while I still try to get my sentence error free :)
Good job GOG. I do not like VMs as i find it boring tbh but many of my favorite anime have been spin -offs from them and it is great to see how an actually curated store can do it right.

Steam generalizing and just removing everything just cause they do not want or cannot curate their own store was an abysmal decision.

It seems they also propose their own "drm-free" version at the bottom of the page. Not tested myself, too lazy, sorry !

Wolfy777: Well, my friendlist is still empthy, so I'm not sure I even understand how it works or what's it actually for.
Not anymore if you'll accept my invite ;)

So ... what's the use of it?
1) You can access the profiles of people who have set their privacy settings to "friends only".
2) Same thing applies to the wishlist, the library and the chat.
3) If you are using Galaxy you can see who also owns a specific game you are about to play.
4) It gives you a fuzzy feeling to have a friend :)
(even though you might now nothing more about him or her than the avatar and the nickname)

Finally. Thank you, GOG!
I'm not sure why many posts in this thread use phrases like "visual novel games." Visual novels are absolutely not games. "Games" and "visual novels" are two completely different and mutually exclusive categories.

I'm not saying visual novels are bad, but to call them "games" is untrue.

I'm not a fan of VN or Anime, but:

1. Anyone who says that they aren't games - guys, we already have a movies section on GOG. :)

2. I must note that some anime and even hentai games have quite solid and interesting gameplay. There is some excellent strategy and RPG out there. For example, Sengoku Rance is quite good strategy with very addictive gameplay. It was so fun, that there even fans tried to develop censor patch (yes, removing adult content) to play it without porn. And RPG from Rance series is quite good too, as the RPG/Strategy games from Eushully.

Also, there was other quite nice hentai Panzer General version with girls commanding units of Bradleys, T-72 and other real military vehicles.

But I agree that this games quite different from other games and maybe (maybe!) some types of VN should get their own section on GOG like movies.

Heh, that is me completely! But with me it would be12 lines, I'm still squirmy about chats though, most likely psyched out by the real-time aspect, I liken it to not being much of a phone person, as I rely on non verbal cues as from communicating in the offline world!
