Salvaging the future.

Forsaken Remastered is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM, 10% off until August 8th, 8am UTC
The cult, futuristic 3D shooter of relentless action returns! Ride your hoverbike and blast the enemy scavengers with a devastating arsenal of primary and secondary weapons and a 360-degree range of freedom. This Remaster features anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion and motion blur effects, a slicker display HUD, unique levels and enemies previously available only in the N64 version, and several other improvements.
seeing this on the storefront surprised the hell out of me. outstanding release as far as i'm concerned. played the shit out of this on N64 with my friends ( and nightshifts at work). i even enjoyed it more than Descent. thanks GOG and Nightdive
In case anyone has a problem with the hud there will be a more simple one coming with the next patch. Kaiser posted the following "work in progress" screenshot on Steam: https://imgur.com/3wRFckA

EDIT: Review by Gggmanlives is on. He's saying this remaster has 32 levels instead of just 15. Check out the review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oIrXjmegkU

Barry_Woodward: The two quotes above are related. The multiplayer relies on Galaxy and there's no LAN. Since the multiplayer relies on Galaxy (as does the achievements) and there isn't a Linux version of Galaxy (yet), they've probably decided against a Linux release (for now) so Linux players aren't out raising hell about how they've paid money for a compromised release.
That doesn't explain the lack of the Mac version on GOG, though. Getting a bit tired of Mac versions that exist on Steam but not GOG, given that there's no "but but but Galaxy" excuse in this case.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that we are working on it. Expect Mac version soon ;)

Guter: Thanks a lot for this posting! I never played the original and wasn't aware of a potentiial problem like this. A time limit is a no buy for me! So I'm interested as well in an answer to that question...

Hicks233: Not all the maps have time limits.

The original poster would do well to play past the first level before ripping on the game quite so strongly.
The problem is, I couldn't even finish the first level due to the tight time limit (yes, playing on the hardest difficulty). And I sure tried. For reference, I have finished e.g. all the three Descent games on the hardest difficulty.

Did you play the PC, or the N64 version, originally?

And of course it's better to have no Linux version at all then?

What about a Linux version with preserved LAN multiplayer mode instead? That even would be the superior version and I'm quite sure there wouldn't be much of an outcry.

And what's about the Linux version?

Can we expect a Linux version too or do I have to buy this game on "that other store" if I want to play it on Linux?
avatar
Klumpen0815: For that price I'd expect more than just a Win7-10 port.
Any plans for a Linux port?
There is a Linux port already. On Steam, just not on GOG as always.

Pardon if this is a stupid question. Does "working on it" mean there is a chance of NON-Galaxy, LAN multiplayer?

That's up to the developers. You should contact Nightdive.

guppy44: This cover art. Despite never playing the game I remember this cover art plastered in every game store, on every magazine cover/back, and inside many other Acclaim games as an ad flier. It's a terribly nostalgic moment just to see it again. Whelp, it may have taken 20 years, but the "ads" finally got me! Insta-buy!
Yess!
Seeing the news of this re-release jarred loose a vague memory of having seen the breathless PC Gamer coverage about the brand new 3Dfx accelerator technology...

And then I remembered the first time I saw one of the ads featuring the sexy, sweaty (but also, in retrospect, inexplicably spotlessly clean/unsullied by any trace of radioactive dirt from the ostensible game world) nude model, that had nothing whatsoever to do with the game, relentlessly plastered on store displays and in magazine pages. Pre-pubescent me was like "WHOA. They cut that ad reeeeally close to the edge of that...female body part. This game must be super edgy! But what does 'Forsaken, but not forgotten,' mean, thoooo??"
I went to look it up in the dictionary...and you better believe that word became well emblazoned into my memory for years to come. (for reasons that had absolutely as little to do with the actual game as the entire marketing campaign did, haha.)
I remember being mildly frustrated when I could never figure out a good way to try and include it in conversation, though! XDD

Oh, cool. It looked like it would be fun to play around with while waiting to see if Overload gets any DLC or something.
