The horror continues.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin + Reborn, an action-horror FPS continuation, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 60% launch discount.

Where the original F.E.A.R. succeeded in offering a terrifying, refined first person game - F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin succeeds even more so. The sequel is more open and varied with less linear environments, new gameplay mechanics like movable cover, and even drivable combat mechs. Still, the basic formula remains unchanged - the slo-mo, refined gunplay, effective AI, and a thick horror atmosphere are back in all their gory. F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin + Reborn which can still impress graphically and gameplay-wise, is arguably the best in the series. A high-quality shooter even today.

This pack includes the Reborn expansion pack with four new levels, a twisted story, and a brand new perspective from behind the mask of replica soldier Foxtrot 813.

Prepare for your second encounter assault in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin + Reborn, available DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Tuesday, March 24, at 10:59 AM GMT.
Awesome, never played any FEAR game yet. Will grab both games eventually.
Nice, I'll take that, thank you. :)

Only ever played the first, so this will be an interesting one to continue with. Heard good things about it.
Well-friggin'-done, GOG! :) I hope to see more Midway games here soon, too.
Added to the wishlist but haven't decided if I'll buy it yet for 2 reasons.

1) My backlog is almost in the teens now and.......
2) Without the horror elements, I'm a little concerned about this game being just another run of the mill FPS.

With Farcry, I picked up 1 and 2 without playing either through yet. GoGers have assured me they are quite different games and liking one doesn't nesassarily mean I'll like the other. These games are still on my backlog which really doesn't need anymore FPSs. Can anyone confirm if FEAR 2 is just another FPS without it's horror elements? Or does it have different virtues that makes it a worthy purchase?

It continues the story and it does, of course, have horror elements. It just has less of them - they're still as shit as they were in the original tho (so good for you I suppose as you seem to have enjoyed them for some reason)

I wish mine was just in the teens...

I'm currently at 388 games on GOG .. of which I've probably actively played 50 or so ... at most 100 of my collection with most in 'backlog' territory ...

On Steam I'm regularly hitting the 'issue' of a sale coming up and going "ooh I have to get X!" only to find X is already in my library (eg Max Payne 3 and GTA4 from last time). Out of the 189 games on Steam (yes I have more on GOG thanks to their policies and certain sales) I have probably played just over half of those ... similar absolute number to GOG but much better in percentages!

I'm going to have a child in September so will have to curtail my spending then ... but given the present situation I imagine I could play for a number of years without any more purchases at this point ...

I think I may have a problem ...

FEAR 1 and 2 and the original Far Cry have a rather good AI. Also, FEAR 1/2 have a decent to good story and great psychological horror. If that's not the stuff you are looking for, i'd say to stay away.

Actually, I haven't played through FEAR 1 yet either but it is in the backlog. :)

FTFY ;-)

Not much to think about then, is there. There's not much point in getting something unless you finish its predecessor... They're both excellent FPS games, but if FPS game is not what you want, well... Let's just say that I've played far better horror games in my life :D

I tried not to let my back log get too crazy. The highest it was at was probably like 60 odd games but I have been able to control my spending and get those games played. In your case, maybe your child can help you with the backlog in a few years. With that many games and the responsibilty of raising a child, I'm sure it will still be there even if you stop buying games ;)

Care to name a few? I'm interested :)

Thanks for your input. Sounds like I should definately play through FEAR 1 first and then consider FEAR 2

Right... Okay, so from what I've recently played, not sorted in any particular manner:
Alien: Isolation is an absolutely fantastic horror game, albeit a bit too long. Especially great if you're fan of the movies. It just pulls everything off so damn well, but it drags on a bit (about 15 hours of gameplay if you don't explore too much). It's a stealth-based game, mostly.

I have just finished Resident Evil 4 HD edition thing, and that was pretty damn good - there's also the RE2 remaster thing which is supposed to be very good. They're great at the whole resource management thing. 3rd person shooter here.

Outlast is great, especially if you like supernatural stories. Again, a stealth-based game - you can't even defend at all in Outlast as opposed to Alien, where you ... Well, can.

I'm just replaying Dead Space, which has fantastic sound design and should be played on higher difficulties. It gets easy anyway, sadly enough.

There's definitely more, but I'm very bad at this recalling thing :-P

You could skip the expansions. They weren't made by the original devs (Monolith) and they are not considered as part of the story and to be honest they are not on par with the base game. So my recommendations are FEAR1 and 2 and skip Persaeus Mandate and Extraction Point

To be honest, I enjoyed Perseus Mandate and Extracton Point as much as the orig. game. They have some really interesting plot connections with FEAR 1.
Hell yeah, way to go Warner Bros. You keep bringing the new hotness, and I'll keep buying.

Unfortunately, the stuff from expansions was not taken in consideration when FEAR 2 and 3 were made.
