A knife to remember

Evil Islands, a fantasy RPG with strong stealth elements, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Zak wakes up in a strange island, surrounded by locals who perceive him as the "chosen one", simply because he has a metal knife in his possession. Soon, he learns that the island of Gipath was once part of a great empire but got cut off after a magical cataclysm essentially threw it back to the stone age. But what is Zak's role in all of this and what destiny awaits him as he travels between these peculiar islands?

Apparently, being the "chosen one" means that you can also choose how to complete the various quests that people offer you. Zak will gradually level up, acquire new skills, craft or loot new gear, and even stumble upon the occasional companion that can assist him in his travels. But he doesn't need to end each mission in a messy bloodbath - stealth can also help him get past certain obstacles, utilizing strategic planning instead of wanton violence. Yet make no mistake, fellow traveler: the Evil Islands are full of dangerous creatures and curious inhabitants, whose intentions will only be revealed to you at the most inopportune moments.

Seek your true destiny and fight the demonic entities that reside in these Evil Islands, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Well, this definitely looks interesting.

HunchBluntley: If I had to make a choice between receiving either this game, or a blow to the head, which would you recommend?

JMich: Depends on the blow I'd say. Is the blow delivered by a wad of cash that you'll get to keep? Are we talking about someone hitting you or this kind of blow? By blow, do you mean any of the songs or albums by that name, or perhaps any of the music groups that go by that? Could it be that you are referring to the film, or is someone blowing on your head? And which of the two heads would that be?

Screw all that, get the game. Safer that way ;)
Still not convinced, but I'll take it under advisement. :)
nice games, but mostly 3d, if Rage of Mages 1 and 2 could arrive :D, that would be good,
i have these on retail.
If anyone is looking for a bit more than what was already said here, wrote a review of it some years ago.

But to quickly add what I didn't yet see: On "normal" you also receive less and less experience for every kill of a certain enemy type, which doesn't happen on "novice". And if anyone can finish it on "normal", wow!
On "novice", you can actually kill everything, and I did. Requires a lot of save scumming and backstabs from two characters with great equipment and buffs and weapons that debuff the enemy on hit, but it can eventually be done. And if you want that best equipment, it needs to be done, due to the scarcity of certain materials.
And magic is quite weak, basically backup, don't rely on it as primary combat tool. And equipment won't be able to carry complex spells, not even towards the end, so think hard what you'll put on it. You'll probably want healing helms (on hit), because if you get hit on the head you'll need it, may not hurt to have healing (torso) armor too, depending on what you'd need to trade for that. Probably weakening weapons. See about the rest; speed helps.
As for running away, that doesn't quite work, as enemies don't tire while your stamina drains in seconds if you run.
And abuse the fireworks spell after you have it, to draw single enemies. Fighting groups is usually sure death, and they alert each other quite realistically, so really need to draw them carefully.
Oh, and always raise the most "expensive" stats first, because each time you add something the cost of everything else doubles, so if you have 3 skills that cost 100, 300 and 1000 at a certain level, rasing them from most to least expensive will cost a total of 2000, while raising them from least to most expensive will cost a total of 4700. Now extrapolate that to the late game, with exp costs in the hundreds of thousands.
Oh, and there's an issue with equipment wear: Since you can't access inventory except at shops, you won't really know how it's doing and, worse, even if you do know it won't help much, as it's not like you can repair or swap anything. Also annoying when you find good stuff and can't equip it until you next visit a store. And, back to wear, there's at least one place where you'll have Zack alone and will really need to hope your equipment will just barely last if you want to clear the area, as it's on the limit if you're really careful. Nets you great stuff if you manage it though.

This made my day! thanks gog!
Well I was one of the first to ask in the wishlist after 3 years ago it's finally here but took a lot of time, thought I'm happy.
I hope this means Rage of Mages is closer.
Be sure to enjoy this one, GOGers...it's really good!
Favorite game from my childhood. Badly overlooked because of strong competition there like Baldur gate, ice winds etc. Similar gameplay, awesome crafting system, deep story (crazy story twist at the end!!), not bad graphic, good controls. Dont forgot about unofficial add-on (created with the help of the original creators) Lost in astrale - game is twice long thanks to it, and itgot a whole new island! I highly recommend that game, still have it on CD-s along with expansion.
My favorite game of all time. Wonderful atmosphere of adventure. Thanks GOG.

The blue on the Russian forum says nope, because there's no English version. So if anyone is aware of a fan translation they can use, maybe it could come in helpful.

I have polish translation of Astral on my hdd. I think nobody did a english patch. If anyone is interested in polish patch i can upload it to the Internet, but i think its still available somewhere to download.

Btw why there is no polish version here? I have fully dubbed version. Polish language ofc. That suck. GOG please add polish language. :)
