Fading Suns is one of the best tabletop RPG settings I've ever played. I'm so happy this entry finally showed up on gog :)

Same here. It's the first time I explicitly came to the store before launch hour to wait to buy something as soon as it was released :P.
Is the game similar to Battle for Wesnoth?
Yeah! Great game!
Never played this, but heard a lot about both the tabletop and this adaption. Gonna pick this one up for sure.
Oooh... Segasoft! I hope this means Flesh Feast and Rocket Jockey are coming.

Only if Battle of Wesnoth met Warhammer 40,000 and Civilization and was set in a Dune-like universe :).

P.S. To whom it may concern: the game works fine in Linux with Wine.

Sounds cool! Does it have any randomization or a Skirmish mode?

Not really. The whole idea of the game is based on a fixed sandbox universe with deep lore in which you can play as one of the 5 noble houses. But if you're concerned it may get boring, all I can say is that I've played the hell out of it and still revisit it from time to time :).

So is it more like Lords of the Realm 2 but in space?

More like Civilization on the Earth map with fixed start locations per faction - in space :). But actually each planet has its own map. That's just the historical mode (which is true to the lore), by the way. You also have a random mode where planet locations are randomized. Sorry, it's been a while since I last played it and I mostly always went with the historical setting anyway :P.

The rest of the Holistic Design games to vote on:

Merchant Prince (the original, not the Machiavelli the Prince remake)
Merchant Prince II
Hammer of the Gods
Mall Tycoon (only the first one is by Holistic Design though)
Battles of Destiny

For anyone wondering, the game is good.
It mixes civilization style planet expansion (though not the size of full Civ maps) where you can expand, invade, build, etc. Then you have a randomized galaxy map with several planets. Not Stars! size, but plenty of room. Each planet/system is connected by nodes so it is possible to block paths/blockade etc with your spaceships. You can transfer troops onto space transports, send them with the rest of the fleet to an enemy planet and commence an invasion from space.
KINDA similar to a mix of Civilization and Star Generals. Only that the battles in Star Generals took place on relatively small maps. The planet/land aspect of this game is much larger in all aspects.

There is plenty of diplomacy/espionage etc.

The game is hard, but fair. I assume the manual is included, read the MANUAL! Else you will either not know what to do for the most part, or how to win. More likely both.

I don't have the GOG version yet as I am currently broke, but I assume the game is fully patched.

Enjoy a very fun deep strategy game.
