Studying the anatomy of space demons.

Doom 3: BFG Edition is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 75% launch discount.
Back to reclaim its FPS throne, Doom 3 adds a strong dose of claustrophobic horror into the series' timeless cocktail of explosive action, horrific enemies, and ultra-violent massacre.

The BFG Edition is the game's remastered version, containing DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 3, and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as The Lost Mission.

Feeling nostalgic or just awfully trigger-happy? Check out our Bethesda shooters sale.
The 75% discount will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.
I am surprised GOG didn't broker some kind of deal with Bethesda to just have the original Doom 3 and Doom 3 BFG bundled together for a slightly higher price. While Doom 3 was never a masterpiece I have always preferred the original version over the BFG edition. While it gets old fast, the flashlight switching better emphasizes the game's environmental lighting as opposed to just having the flashlight on for the entire playthrough.

Plus almost all Doom 3 mods are made for the original release of the game.
Not my cup of tea but I'm glad it is finally here :)

guppy44: Just a couple of many examples, but Resurrection of Evil has been modified and chunks of the game were removed or changed to ensure a German release (so why it's currently unavailable there on GOG at this time is beyond me).

haydenaurion: Could you give more details on this or provide a link to a list of changes? I'd like to know what's changed here.
From http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3:_Resurrection_of_Evil

"Doom 3 BFG Edition
Doom 3 BFG Edition was released with RoE already built in, so it can be played by accessing the campaign screen.

Several levels have been modified and some features have been removed, most notably the toxic maze & enviro-suit sequence in Erebus Research, the dimensional shift in Delta Labs, as well as a room with numerous monsters in Hell."

This shows all the changes BFG brings: http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3_BFG_Edition

As you can see, even the original DOOM games have been altered (albeit slightly). The health packs no longer bear the red cross and are now identified by a red and white capsule as well as all Nazi references being removed.
Store page only mentions single-player. Is multi-player included in this release? Also, can GOG users play with Steam users?

tinyE: They made a mistake releasing Q4 at the same time. If this was it, I would get it, but instead I can grab a Q4 that way outplays this BFG crap and be happy with that until, and if, they decide to give us the original D3.
You won't see original Doom 3 here or elsewhere in digital form.
Why? Well... ask the publisher.
Instabuy for sure, together with Quake 4. But no collection is complete without Commander Keen games ;) Hope GOG can bring them to their store someday.

I still have my disc so I'll live.

I was scanning the right side of the page and missed that text from the description. Thanks for clarifying.
avatar
ZFR: According to the game's page, this includes Doom1 Ultimate and Doom 2. Is that really so?
avatar
Grargar: That's correct, but both games were modified from the original releases that are sold separately on GOG.

Thank you. There goes the only reason I might have had for buying this. As it is, I think I'll buy the classics here and then hunt eBay for the original Doom 3.

Incidentally, No Rest for the Living was released in 2010 for XBox, right? The only (official) way of playing it on PC is through BFG?

Steam has both Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil in their original forms.

Yup, that's correct. Same goes for the Lost Mission expansion.

Yeah I know, and TBH they aren't bad setups. I'm sticking with my CD because while I use Steam, I do so only when I have no other choice, like with Portal or Half-Life. I'll grab that Steam copy if my cat eats my Doom 3 CD. :P

For those wanting the original btw: You can buy it from Steam (yes I just said that), and use the open-source port called dhewm3 for a DRM-Free version (You will still need an original CD-Key to play online). Link: https://github.com/dhewm/dhewm3/releases
