If you were ever imagining how the legendary classics like Baldur's Gate would look and feel like, were they developed today, this is your answer! Larian Studios managed to make good on all of their promises of classic gameplay, extensive world, gripping storyline, and flexible system paired with high production value of contemporary double-A titles. The price of the game varies from region to region, but don't be alarmed! NOTE:
The version of the game offered here comes with the full single-player campaign, but currently supports only LAN/DirectIP multiplayer modes, with on-line multiplayer features coming as a later update, powered by GOG Galaxy, our DRM-Free online gaming platform. Thank you for your patience!

Thanks, that was my understanding but I wasn't completely sure.

JudasIscariot: The only delays we really experience with patches is when we don't get the new version/patch/etc. and when there is a severe gamebreaking issue with a patch where it breaks a game to the point of becoming unplayable.
It's possibly more of a question of perception.

For one thing, how much data have we got (how many games were released on GOG and other services during a heavy patch cycle for the game?) to have statistics on how long of a delay we are talking about, objectively.

For another, if people can't play with their friends because there is even just a few hours of difference between patching on one service and patching on another there will be a few that will complain, and they will be the ones that are heard and thus create the impression of delay.

Me, I prefer more testing even if it means a bit of delay but I rarely buy games near the release date and I don't play multiplayer much so I am not as affected as others by problems caused by version mismatch.

HypersomniacLive: Where can I pre-order your novel? This is a too good of a deal to pass up. ;-P

EDIT: And I just noticed that deonast is as anxious to get his hands on your novel as I am. ;-)

Coelocanth: I want in on the Early Access. :D
I guess the equivalent of it on early access would be me starting to tell one of the short stories contained within and leaving them unfinished? Or perhaps just posting random paragraphs that allude to a story but cryptically don't add up to one :P

If you'd like to look at the engine being used for my novel, please check here and please also check the SDK we're very proud to be using for this novel!

HypersomniacLive: Hmm, slap Steam and CEG on top of everything else? Sounds irresistible!! ;-P
Early Access on Steam would work really well with this idea as chat text isn't saved :P

IanM: for an extra $50 you can get the next tier with Securom and Tages :)
avatar
JudasIscariot: Double size your order and we'll throw in an extra helping of StarForce :D :D
Also doable. I have a friend in Canada who manages a small town Starbucks. I figure since StarForce and Starbucks both have the word "Star" in them, they must be compatible. Am eagerly anticipating those keen on pre-ordering visiting their local Starbucks to ask about how their pre-orders are going. Will also include free cup of coffee to backers(must pay for cup of coffee first in order to redeem - I wish I could find the dice Kickstarter that had that one - one must purchase an additional set of die in order to get the one that one had already paid for!)

Thanks for the quote, even if you're being a dick, it's still a bump :)

I'd consider it being cheeky rather than a being a dick :) Your post reminded me so much of chatrooms when I first starting using the net in the mid 90s, where A/S/L was the mantra used. No offence intended, I got a laugh out of it and if another does then that is a bonus :)
I'd also suggest using the Divinity forums on GOG to try to find a co-op partner if you are unsuccessful here :)

I'm sure someone can tell me how bad of an idea this would be to implement, but I would prefer to have all patch versions of a game listed and be able to choose how far to patch up to instead of just one patch that I can use or not use or auto-patching to the latest version. Most of the time, a patch is a good thing but sometimes they don't just correct game-breaking bugs but also address subjective aspects of a game that I would rather not have changed. I can think of a few times when a patch made a game worse, like the official 1.3 patch for Temple of Elemental Evil.

If there are big changes, something like FTL did with the Enhanced Edition is super awesome. I was worried that much of the game would be changed, but they put a toggle in the menu to either keep the game vanilla or enhanced based on user preference. Something like that for The Witcher 2 would have been great too, since a few people didn't care for the changes in the Enhanced Edition and could only get vanilla if they still had the previous version downloaded and backed up somewhere or re-installed from the physical boxed game discs.

Anyway, just some thoughts about updating in general not really related to this specific game. Of course, things are different when multi-player enters into it too, which I personally don't really care about.

Pheace: On Steam it's all automated. Devs can push out their own patches to the store. As far as I'm aware they can simply upload to the location of the core game and any changes to it will be uploaded to Steam users who have the game installed. There's no testing there. The state of the game is the devs responsibility.

That's one of the worries people have for GOG. Supposedly they do some in-house testing before releasing it. If that stays true, they can never update at the same time as Steam, there will always be a delay.

If they don't, well then they loose what some people consider good about GOG's patching style.
GOG is not Steam and i certainly hope they don't copy their system. The people whinging about autoupdatepatching bs seem to be in the minority so i really hope Gog doesn't fall for this.
For what its worth (and how little i know) my guess is, Steam allows dev to do their own shite cause Steam neither wants to QA due to the volume, or just dont want to.

I'm sure GOG is looking towards the future, one in which the demand for that will only grow with increased numbers of new games with regular patching and multiplayer games becoming a bigger part of the catalogue from now on.

Did you get anyone? I would, but I am in a different time zone. Also, I am flaky about my schedule, so that's the bigger issue.

I suggest posting here as well,

Dunno bro, time is going to be an issue and not to mention connection and lag. You're an entire ocean away from me after all :)

Yup, and I think you'll find someone if you post in that subforum. Good luck, and happy playing!

Is the game that laggy? I'm in Eastern Canada and I race people from Germany online all the time and we're door to door in tight turns without issues.

No idea about the game itself, just bad experience with playing against Americans (from the states), since most had bad connections. I know that I shouldn't generalise, but like I said before, there's an entire ocean of difference.
