Can this game provide refuge from the end game lag of Stellaris?

I tried the first one but never really got past the empire selection for lack of customization.

Do they have that now? How does DW2s empire customization compares to Stellaris?

I haven't played the first one yet but both look a lot like Stellaris and I love Stellaris so this is definitely a wishlist entry for me!

The problem with 4X games made by small developers is that the more complex they make the game, the more unlikely it is that the AI will be able to cope with all the options. Even a big studio like Pdox struggle's to make the Stellaris AI challenging to an experienced player.

Biggest problem with small studios: Testing.

Hmmm. Distant Worlds for three buckeroos is kind of tempting.
