“A trap is only a trap if you don't know about it. If you know about it, it's a challenge.”

Deathtrap, an intense, atmospheric tower defense/ action-rpg, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and multiplayer, and a 50% launch discount.

If there's one thing tower defense and aRPGs have in common, it's the satisfaction of having just mowed down a horde of stupid, cannon fodder bad guys and going through the loot they left behind. Forget epic quests and world-spanning adventures - here, the fight comes to you.
Deathtrap takes the surprisingly entertaining tower defense minigame you might know from The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing games, and cranks the chaotic fun up to eleven. Massive maps, inventive combos, and an endless number of oddly-shaped enemies get trapped in the same room with diverse player classes, loot, crafting, and a focus on gear. What comes out is a truly sophisticated tower defense title coated in a gothic-noir glaze and matching soundtrack that set the perfect mood for slaughtering horrible abominations.

Action RPG? Check. Tower Defense? Check. Awesome? Check out Deathtrap, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last for the duration of the Summer Sale.

Please note: This DRM-Free version does not contain the Level Editor, Workshop and Custom Map support. The price has been adjusted to reflect that.

Russonc: Tower defenses are not my fav... I'll just grab the Myst bundle instead...
They are mine, but not this one this is a 3d TD game so its a big no..... most TD games seem to be designed 3d, i dont know why but its a welknown fact.

steam reviews: Positive (581) Negative (101)

ah, i am happy to see this one got at least lots of neg. reviews :D at steam....

But the 581 pos. ones made it possible to arrive here i guess.

$20 for the standalone version of an in-game minigame? Seems a little steep to me.

Deathtrap Dungeon is a completely unrelated game (one that's already sold here, too, so I hope that wish gets marked as completed).
Since it was recently bundled I was curious what was taking so long for it to get here, but of course it was Galaxy again.

IronArcturus: Is this related to Deathtrap Dungeon?
No.
Hm, I always thought that Tower Defense games are those games, where you have a guntower and have to shoot down hordes of incoming alien spaceships or airplanes.
high rated
Seems heavily improved over the in-game version. I wouldn't mind getting it with the launch discount, but I still haven't found how is it tied to neocore account (or IF at all). I think I'll risk it, game card mentions needing Galaxy for multiplayer, chance is that it's the only thing that is needed.

And then there is this:
Please note: This DRM-Free version does not contain the Level Editor
At least it's honest, I'm not much into building my own game before playing it anyway. But candidate for the various "second class citizens" lists anyway.

Kakarot96: Be aware that game has problems with sound engine since ever. Just go to steam and check it in support sub-forum. The answer from dev team has been 0 until now, and it's the same problem they had with van helsing games: sound error at start with their engine means no music and no sounds at all, even if the rest of game is working. Support is 0, so that's also my "support" to these developers :P
I was considering purchasing this game, but this gave me pause. Has anyone else experienced this?

Indeed it is not. Check out 2 of the best TD games:

Defenders Quest - https://www.gog.com/game/defenders_quest

GemCraft: Chasing Shadows - http://store.steampowered.com/app/296490

Also take a look at Creeper World series, which mixes TD with RTS - http://knucklecracker.com/

All the above are extremely good games, and very highly recommended.

Same here, i like playing old style, nowdays everything must be craftable in a way by the user, crafting should be a nice option/addition to a game, it should depend solely on it.
And finally imho, no 3d please for tower defense games, they look bad, and play bad, just stick to the 2d / top view or sideview, but please, dont 3d it and also no zooming and rotating please.
Like i said, i pass on this game, i dont like this 3d version, i have some TD games, but all classics, no 3d...

Sanctum TD old isometrich look, towerdefense , unfortunately Sanctum 2 had to turn 3d, graphics are 3d.

Adding to what amok mentioned, there are also reverse tower defense games where you are the attacker as in the Anomaly games (except Defender).

That's a bit of a misleading way to put it or look at it.
Sanctum was 3D, then they did a spinoff called Super Sanctum TD which was indeed 2D before returning to their original 3D formula for Sanctum 2.

Then there is the ultimate TD engine - Warcraft 3. That is in 3D too.
