I am a rock, I am an island.

Dear Esther: Landmark Edition, the definitive version of the narrative-driven experience that kicked off a sub-genre, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Looking more stunning than ever, Dear Esther is a modern classic that's hard to forget.
You've arrived at an island that floats on the verge of sorrow. Painful memories echo through its mesmerising caverns and stunning landscapes, carried in a mellow narrator's voice. Who are you, and how did you earn the privilege to share this burden?

Wasn't Awesomenauts DRM-Free build also pulled years ago from the same bundle?

Gonchi: Wasn't Awesomenauts DRM-Free build also pulled years ago from the same bundle?
Indeed.

It became pretty clear when the bundle ended that Ronimo was more intent on making the "always online" aspects of the game take center stage. Guess they realized they can't make money off DLC when people are playing offline against bots or running LAN matches.

They still sell the game - https://www.humblebundle.com/store/awesomenauts - they simply no longer offer it with a DRM-free option.
I bought a retail copy of Dear Esther on Humble. Downloads were available to me 6 hours ago, but are now gone. I have sent a support request.

I'd buy this version here on a sale. Unless the devs really had humble remove downloads. But... but... surely they're not that horrible! ;)

EDIT again:
Sorry, I have to back-pedal.
After a check of my emails, I saw, that I bought Dear Esther unbundled in 2012
And it seems, I didn't buy the Indie 8 Bundle.

Nevertheless - the title is no longer in my library.

Luckily I downloaded Dear Esther last week again, but not the soundtracks.

I wonder how many games or books are gone without that I have noticed it.

MarkoH01: O.K. now I am REALLY pissed. As you can read in this thread Chinese Room is not planning to add the DRM-free Landmark Edition to the humblebundle accounts. Well, even if this is completely unfair it is their choice because I never paid for it. However - I just checked my library on humble to see if they have changed their mind and noticed that the original DRM-free version (you now, the one I paid money for) now was removed FROM MY LIBRARY. Just wrote to Chinese Room and demanded them to fix this ASAP. I am so angry and they really should follow my not so friendly advice. Otherwise I might send them countless mails, facebooks posts ect. It's simply unbelievable to delete something from my account I paid for - basically imo this is theft.
Speaking of losing access to digital purchases, don't buy music from Bandcamp. Kind of unrelated, but if an artist removes their music from sale there you automatically lose the ability to download it. Amazon doesn't have this problem, and I don't know why Bandcamp does. If you contact them about it, they just tell you to contact the artist.

It might be to signify that since its their music, they can do what they want with it (even if it is the complete removal of it from the site). Amazon probably doesn't offer that kind of immediate control. Purely speculation though.

That said, Bandcamp does allow artists to make releases private/unavailable for purchase but they remain accessible to any user who had previously purchased them. This means absolutely nothing, however, when artists leave the site in an angry huff (like a few European musicians/bands did when VAT issues arose) and just nuke everything in their wake.

From my own experience, I have to say that a thing I couldn't possibly love less is to find an artist has removed an album I paid for and then has the audacity to tell me something along the lines of "Sorry! You can buy the vinyl or buy it on iTunes instead!"

However, with Amazon it is possible to remove music you bought from your library yourself so that you can no longer download it, and you may not even notice it because there is no special confirmation required or anything (like a warning message and a password confirmation), it's the same as if you were removing a prime music title you can't download anyway (and add again afterwards if you like). Especially with the horrible Amazon Music App in its latest version (or the latest I have tried - I will never go anywhere near this program again) this can happen very easily. There are still titles missing or mixed up in my library even after I had them restored when I complained about this, but they were not very understanding and did not really seem to get my point. Not going to buy any more digital music there, as well.

Pherim: *snip*
That's good to know, thank you. To be clear, I wasn't try to say Amazon is particularly great, but I did contact them to make sure that losing the ability to download songs removed from sale wasn't normal everywhere.

Honestly, buying music is a pain to me. Even though most places seem to sell it without DRM, they all seem to have one major issue or another that pushes me away.

At this point I have basically decided to go back to buying physical discs and converting them myself, this way I can also make sure the quality of the resulting files is good.
Just got my reply from The Chinese Room regarding the removal of the DRM-free version of "Ether One" on humnble: They said it was a mistake which they will correct. In my reply to theirs I also urged them while fixing the mistake to reconsider their decision to not add the DRM-free Landmark Edition to the humble accounts.

Just checked: DRM-free Dear Esther is back - no Landmark Edition.

Thanks for reaching out to them. Sometimes it's easy to think that a single person won't make a difference, but if nobody had bothered to bring this to their attention then the removal may have never been fixed.

I have to say that I do believe them. They also replied to the mail I just wrote and it sounds honest to me. It also sounds much better thasn my last reply. I'll have to add: it's really seldom that a company would give such detailed replys (the whole mail is MUCH longer). The only time this happens is when they really DO care:

"So let me assure you, it [DRM-free Landmark version] IS on the list. We’ve got a bunch of stuff on there – allowing different subtitling colours for visually impaired players, ultra-wide screen support, looking into new languages and responding to feedback that some of the localisations in the game aren’t so good – and DRM-free version is there too. We will do our best to make it happen, I promise – it just might not be immediate. But we will always do our best."

Yep, Esther is in the library again.
Welcome back :)

VanishedOne: I'm seeing the soundtracks but apparently no game.

No walking simulator either. :-P
Yeah, that was a temp glitch, it showed fine a while later. And the game's back too, as others already reported.

Not just a single person, I had a friend nag them on Twitter.
