SentientNo4: Sorry for off-topic, but can anyone shed some light on why is Gearbox hated on gog? Is it because of the Bulletstorm controversy? I'm really out of the loop, and I keep wondering what's with all the hate towards Gearbox in the forums.
Basically Randy is a politician. He says A (good stuff for consumer) and _at_same_time_ does B (good stuff for company). Like he says he does not like Steam (...link-i-am-not-allowed-to-post... seriously.. gog just does not save with it in..) and then forces it on people (Duke Nukem Forever Release). Or he says his company will finish Duke Nukem Forever, when in fact they just shat out the exact unfinished version they bought up. Then the Aliens Colonial Marines lies prior release with faked footage and whatnot. The trail goes on and on. Jim Sterling has a few youtube-videos proofing he lied to him too. He tells you what you want to hear and even dresses up as such.. like prior the Duke Nukem Release he gave the "geeky fanboy" dressing up with white T-Shirt and visited game conventions and squeaked like a schoolgirl about Duke when clearly seeing it now he was acting.

Oh and let's not forget recently this year they were caught making business with G2A and when Total Biscuit pointed out they're basically selling stolen goods Gearbox made them an "Open Letter" with an Ultimatum in it like they did not know this earlier lol. And guess what happened. Yeah, nothing because Total Biscuit already posted this Situation in a video and later nobody cares so fuck all I guess LOL

They're not hated on gog, they're hated pretty much across the board. Colonial Marines had a lot to do with that. They've been accused of more or less running a ponzi scheme, getting funds from big publishers to make games based on HUGE IPs (ie. Alien) and funneling those funds into their pet franchise Borderlands.

Oh yeah, and they thought $20 would be a good price point for 20 year old Duke Nukem 3D.

They got some bonus hatred on gog for pulling the Duke Nukem games. I suppose there is a chance we'll get those back soon. They've released their fairly recent Homeworld games here, which was a nice surprise, so I guess the gog userbase has mellowed towards them somewhat.
I see, thanks for the info. Found more info on reddit... I guess that's why you don't mess with the gaming community - they do not forget. :)

What AlienMind mentioned, plus the fact the only games of theirs people seem to like -- or at least somewhat enjoy -- are the Borderlands titles. Which aren't on GOG, by the way, even though Compulsion Games keeps telling us how "DRM-free friendly" the folks at Gearbox Publishing (which they always keep reminding us are not the same people as Gearbox Software) are. Well, we have the Homeworld games here on GOG, all published by Gearbox, and now We Happy Few, as well... but do you want to know why a lot of the GOG community can't stand Gearbox? Here it goes:

Maybe you remember a time when GOG sold the old Duke Nukem games. Maybe you also know who owns the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise, now. That's right, Gearbox. And these "really cool" guys at Gearbox suddenly pulled all of the Duke games down from GOG, which, well, is fine, since they own the rights now, I guess? They do what they want with their IP. But after all these years, Gearbox never bothered to sell the Duke Nukem games on GOG again, even when they came to GOG with the Homeworld games. This is mostly the reason people on GOG can't stand Gearbox.

For Gearbox hate all over the internet, there are a lot of reddit threads I'll let you look for, yourself, but let's just say the general opinion is that they ruin everything they touch that isn't Borderlands.

Offtopic over.

groze: ..we have the Homeworld games here on GOG, all published by Gearbox...
Ah yiss.. let me tell you a story about the newest homeworld title. There was a crowdfunding campaign to get the rights to that title and as it was nearly funded Gearbox snagged it away from the crowdfunders by buying it from the current IP holder. So all in all, as much as I like Tiny Tina I hate Randy. All is well and equalized in the universe :-)

Back on topic: I helped funding this game four years ago on indiegogo. Back at the time roguelike was a novelty :-)

Doesn't come as a surprise, really... just your standard Gearbox practice. I bet those crowdfunders think they're "really cool" guys, too, like Compulsion Games do.
Holy damn pony potato cow! I remember it on my steam wishlist years ago, at some point, I removed it because I thought it was abandoned. Now, bring me No Truce With The Furies and I'll love you again GoG.

amok: how many indie games have Gearbox published here?
avatar
groze: One. But even the devs admit it's more of a AAA title, now. So, none, actually.
Nor is it final....

AlienMind: Indie means project is 100% self owned. AAA means huge budget.
There is actually no definition.of what indie means, which is part of the problem. There was a thread about it Herr a couple of years ago.

Hmm. Intriguing. Looks a wee bit too intense for me.
I'd like to know our purpose for going into these woods.

other than that, game looks like it could be interesting, gotta love the irrelevant trailer
Was that supposed to be scary or something? Pffft. I come from Finland and we have lots of dark woods around us so you need more than that to scare us.

Heck, my apartment is next to a dark wood from which you hear at nights unearthly howling, the singing of gnomes as they go to work in their gold mine, butt-nekkid women walking around in the woods etc. Been there, done that, it all stopped scaring me when I was like 5 years old, especially the butt-nekkid women.

Otherwise pretty impressive trailer though, looking forward to play this I think.

OK so for those of you who may be on the fence about the game, you will be pleased to know that the game has 3 difficulty modes:

Normal: you die, you lose some stuff out of your backpack. You can die as much as you want.

Hard: you have 5 lives and when you die you lose some stuff out of your backpack

Nightmare: you die and it's game over.

When you die in the Normal and Hard mode, you can retrieve the stuff you lost :)

So suitable for those who don't like permadeath, also. I usually like to die as much as possible lol

Nice indie finished game released also on GOG. Yup, i like it, thank you!

EDIT: until when is the release discount? Thank you!

PD (offtopic): i agree with other here, Randy and GB are hated all over the world for their unethical practices. Making friends wherever he goes lol

There is actually a proper launch trailer for the official release of the game. And it only shows gameplay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S3tmWfFACQ

I think it's more appropriate to transpire the mood of the game, than the live action teaser.

How about some key words? Domain name? URL without protocol? Full URL with spaces stuck in it?
