The (cater)pillars of heavy-metal warfare.

Codename: Panzers Phase I, and Phase II, the acclaimed duo of RTSs where you command heavy artillery while entangled in historical WWII battles, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 40% launch discount. Buying both will grant you a 60% completionist discount.

As kids, playing with toy cannon-cars™ was usually the pinnacle of our accurate reenactment of human warfare. Because tanks can go anywhere, blast through anything, and withstand terrible amount of punishment. The same holds true for their digital counterparts that are tasked with changing the tide of war with real-time strategic moves in iconic WWII scenarios.

Codename: Panzers: Phase I and Codename: Panzers: Phase II let you control infantry and artillery units as you alternate between three opposing factions right in the middle of Stalingrad, Berlin, El Alamein, and even Monte Cassino. Take the reins of war from renowned commanders like Hans Von Gröbel, Aleksander Efremovich Vladimirov, Dario DeAngelis, and Farvan "Vuk" Pondurovik, crush the enemy forces, and relive their greatest victories. It was the dawn of a new era, ushered by roaring, strategic canon-blasts that still echo today.

Manage and position your menacing machines of war in authentic WWII battlefields as you command the Codename: Panzers Phase I and Phase II, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 40% launch discount and the 60% completionist discount will last until February 25, 3:59 PM GMT.
Played them back in 2004-2005 and still have my CDs ...somewhere. Decent games. They were great at the time, but after CoH came out, they just weren't as good. What stuck with me was the fact that you could play as Yugoslav Partisans in Phase II. Rare thing for a game to do.

It's not as strategic or as grueling as Blitzkrieg or Sudden Strike I and II. The latter two I'd really like to see on GOG.com by the way. As the name indicates, emphasis is on tanks, and it's all just a little bit "arcady". If you haven't played, and love WWII setting, go for it. Just don't expect Panzer General or the above-mentioned games.
These were great games. I will be picking them up in the future. These two games were well supported and are historically authentic.

The-Business: 1. Are there any differences between the Codename: Panzers Complete Collection you plan to release at the end of the month and the titles you sell (+ will sell for Cold War) here?
Does this mean there will be a superior, more "complete" version of these games available soon?

chlorique: Cool wishlisted, more serious RTS ala CoH is always nice.

Matruchus: Actually its a RTT game not RTS (again mislabeled by gog) like Company of Heroes but it does have similar tactical combat.
What's RTT?

All I come up with is Round-Trip Time and Real-Time Text, neither of which work in this context...

Real Time Tactics. Most gamers get the Strategy part wrong. Hint: It's about scale.

Fair enough. I would have got it wrong because I didn't realize people made the distinction.

I now appreciate that all but one of the TBSs I've played in the last few months have actually been TBTs. ^_^
Uhh boy, it is a tough one. I love these games, but I bought the nicely boxed version pf the first game for 5 dollars about 7 years ago... so it is hard for me to justify twice the price for this one atm.

Each game is 5.99$ at the moment at 60% off (if you buy them both).

Its not just scale. Its missing the production part. Basically you don't build units but go in to fight with what you get at the start. Though in some game modes in the game you can capture factories, tents to get more units in to the field but it doesn't really matter much since the game will be finished before more then a tank or two is built.

You are right. I was confused because there is the $17.98 "Buy series price" and also the $11.98 launch promo price. But this later is available only from the banner on the main page. It was confusing me.
How is it I missed this earlier? I love these games! Thanks a hecka lot you guys!
Arguably the best games to have featured Italians as a playable faction in the RTT genre. I remember loving both games when i was younger, and have an especially vivid memory of the IT dub being somewhat hilarious.

Time to smash my piggybank.

In the Skirmish mode of either game, is the player allowed to pick how many tanks they can use and which type?

You get so called prestige points at the start (between 2000-3000 points depending on the game type you wan't to play) and you can buy units for your army. So let's say a Tiger Tank costs 300 points. Rifleman 30 points, submachine gunners 70 points, Medium artillers 118 points. Basically you can pick out any unit from the pool be it infantry, panzer, artillers or support vehicles (reconnaisance, ammo supply, repair truck) and buy it as much as your prestige points pool allows.

That's like standard for tabletop games and a computer game example is Final Liberation. Very interesting.

Yes, but forgot to add that you pick out the units before the map loads so you effectively make your stack before you begin the fight. You can also save your pre-selected armies so you can use them in different battles.
