I get what you mean. However, it was easy to get bored when the game forces you to play too many tactical fights and taking you away from the overall strategic layer. At least that was the case for me with Omerta. Games like Sigma Theory or Crying Suns handle combat by giving you options and then rolling all the required dice for you automatically. Personally I prefer this in a strategic game, most of the times, unless the game is really geared towards tactical confrontations (like XCOM, and often I wished there was a button to automanage some missions...).
