A 1997 action strategy game in which you command a pirate ship in the Caribbean during the 17th century is now out on GOG – we’re talking, of course, about Buccaneer, launching with a -15% discount until July 15th, 1 PM UTC!

This looks like granddaddy of Sea Dogs to me (although both games are only couple years apart which is wild).

Back then every year was more of a leap than between 2010 and today. I never cease to be amazed looking bacj that Warcraft 2 was released just a year after the first.

Having a release date of today instead of 1997 is confusing info.
Unfortunately, it's a trend nowadays to create "ugly" new games on purpose, so one could mistake this GOG with one of those abominations.

Was actually wondering not long ago if this will get here, does indeed seem like the predecessor of Sea Dogs... Which makes it baffling to see Win 10+ required. I'd downright call it a crime if true, so I do hope that's wrong and whatever work was done on it did not break compatibility so much and it'd work at least on 7, if not even earlier versions.

According to gogdb this game uses D3DRM.DLL which was created to make older games run on Windows Vista and newer, as far as I can remember.

Never seen this Buccaneer game before. My childhood pirate game was 'Pirates! Captain's Quest'. It was really good.

It's probably the usual song and dance due to MS having discontinued official support of any version prior to Win10, and its end is coming up soon, too - even though Win11 is really just Win10 in a trench coat with extra bloated crap and downgrades nobody asked for. Nobody should be surprised that new releases/re-releases don't target non-supported platforms, no matter whether it's possible to actually still run them on older OSes or not.

It's very sad but this is true. I'll stick to Win10 as long as my machine lives.
