Anno 1404 Gold Edition, the city-building RTS set during the dawn of the Renaissance, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Arguably, the course of human history and our cultural footprint are mainly defined by a constant drive for discovery and evolution. But would these fine qualities even exist if they were not prompted by our insatiable hunger for power and financial gain?

Anno 1404 Gold Edition speaks of a time when large-scale endeavors like the Crusades, the hanseatic trade, and the ushering of the Renaissance provided numerous opportunities for business and conflict between rising powers. You, as the newly appointed ruler of a fictional fiefdom, are in the perfect position to seize these opportunities and become a prominent player in this tug of war. Efficient trading and fearless exploration across the globe will be your bread and butter, but should circumstances call for conflict, your combat readiness will also be tested on both land and sea. You must manage your population, build majestic gothic cathedrals, and expand your influence in both the Occident and the Orient, as you become one of the pioneers of capitalism.

Build and expand your empire by trading goods and blows with foreign kingdoms in Anno 1404 Gold Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 33% discount will last until January 19, 1:59 PM GMT.
Wait, all blah strategy aside, did we really just get a 2010 Ubisoft UPlay game? Here?

Should I start actually hoping again for Assassin's Creed 2? o.o
UPlay account? Really?

Maxvorstadt: UPlay account? Really?
Same goes for Far Cry 2, I suppose.
Me? Tried to play an ubisoft online once, then heard kids everywhere calling my mom names and s*it.
For no-th-ing.

Never again.

Just set up 2 laptops and enjoy one of the masterpieces in gaming: the Anno series, much like I did with my brother. Then he didn't DARE to call our beloved mamasita a slut or whatever ;P

Currently installing the game to verify it. Online multiplayer of 1404 always needed an account though, you can still use the LAN mode to play online while avoiding the UPlay account (via Tunngle, Hamachi, GameRanger).

Edit: Yup, an Uplay account is required for online play. It was called Ubi.com account back when Anno 1404 was released. Nothing has changed here then, at least the DRM from Venice has been removed (as on Steam).

Oh oh oh GREAT RELEASE!!!!!! Thank you Ubisoft, thank you GOG!

This is my personal anti-stress game, I really enjoy building small beautiful communities (the graphics are just perfect!) and then observe all those little people getting on with their lives while listening to the magnificent soundtrack. There are so many little details in Anno 1404; just zoom in and take a look at all these people walking, working, meeting together, sometimes talking and other times fighting, getting drunk outside taverns or zoom out to admire your newfound community from high above.

From a technical side, the graphics are wonderfully colorful and the textures are very nice whether you are in the Orient or the Occident, the sound is topknotch, the UI is not only beautiful but it works too. The soundtrack, as I wrote above, is simply great and soothing.

Maybe I'm a bit biased but I can't find any faults in this game. It has everything I wanted in a city building/ trading sim.

The price is good and if you enjoy these type of games, you' ll get a lot of content. Lot's of stuff to unlock too, if you like achievements.

It is like Ubi read my previous (yesterday) post:

@Ubisoft: Please release Anno 2070 DRM-Free at last. Thank you! :)

Very unlikely to happen because of all the online functions. What a shame...

The retail version of Anno 1404 didn't have uPlay. It was locked using Tages that has been removed after a while (thankfully because I wouldn't have bought it). Not sure about the expansion though.
Oh, I bought it relatively recently on Steam, because it was dirt cheap and I read it actually is DRM free there as well. Haven't tested this yet, though. But the more we get here, the better!
Nice. Wishlisted, because I have to play 1503 and 1701 first. :)

Regarding the gamecard: by offline multiplayer, do they mean "bots" or something like LAN?

IronArcturus: Looks pretty cool! How does it compare to Anno 1701?
1404 is the refined version of 1701. Extra bonus: a really nice story campaign.

LAN is supported without the need to use an account.

The uPlay client is not needed for online multiplayer in Anno 1404 Venice (and not even supported), you only need a uPlay/Ubisoft account to login.

rodrolliv: Just checked the game card of the first Farcry, it says "MULTIPLAYER NOTICE: Online servers shut down as of the 6th of October, 2015. Multiplayer is available only through a LAN connection."
Sure, but before that...

Also, you may want to check Far Cry 2's product info:

Multiplayer notice: In order to access the multiplayer portion of the game, you must first register a Uplay account and enter your unique CD-key. Your CD-key is located on your game shelf.
