If you’re looking for chilling, lovecraftian adventures, you came to the right place – because Alone in the Dark is now out, with a -10% launch discount until March 27th, 2 PM UTC!

Alone in the Dark weaves a chilling tapestry of psychological horror and Southern Gothic charm, reimagining the iconic game that set the benchmark for the genre. We invite you to join us on a journey into madness, where each encounter could be your last. With each step you take closer to unravelling Derceto's mystery, the eyes that watch from the darkness grow hungrier. Every bullet means the difference between survival and an unthinkable end. The next door you unlock could lead to a nightmarish realm offering nothing but slashing claws, grasping tentacles, and frayed sanity. Journey to interbellum Louisiana, where an era of decadence hides a darker tale - of escape from past traumas and an intolerant society, into the waiting grasp of something darker, something that has patiently lurked for impossible eons. This is Alone in the Dark as you've never seen it - a skillfully-woven narrative of Southern Gothic elegance and eldritch madness that pays homage to its legendary origins while taking the next step forward in survival horror storytelling.

You can now also get:
Digital Artbook
Vintage Horror Filter Pack
Soundtrack
Digital Deluxe Edition
Director’s Commentary Mode

Syphon72: It's harder to look over bad gameplay and performance than bad voice acting. The voice actors are probably the reason the game cost so much.
avatar
GilesHabibula: I may certainly be wrong, but my understanding is that voice actors aren't paid that well. IIRC, something like a flat rate of $600 per 4-hour session. More for motion capture work if applicable.

Which does add up, especially with a voice-heavy game, but I would think other factors would cost much more.
You're right, but there using Hollywood actors for the main charactera. David Harbour who Played in bunch of movies and gained popularity from stranger things.

Usually only AAA studies use Hollywood actors.

That rate I quoted was the Hollywood rate!
However I did not know that the game was using big name actors, as neither of the lead actors had names that rang a bell with me. I'll chalk that up to my old age, and I hereby stand corrected.

Also, I will add that both of the leads sound to me like they did a fine job of it.

Well, David Harbour isn't tom cruise big. He was one of the top-paid actors on Stranger Things which is popular, and played Hellboy recently.

I don't understand this trend of rebooting video games series to produce "reimagined" games that have only vague similarities to the originals.

This game might be good, I don't know, but absolutely nothing in the trailer reminds me of the original Alone in the Dark.

sanscript: Not exactly fan of the lead actor either after the monologue he made a few years back.
avatar
Syphon72: Not a fan of him as well.
Same. It's actually a real turn-off for me.
I thought that'd be a minority opinion, but who knows?

kotcore: If the Production Cost is higher, the Price you pay is higher. That's they Way it is for every Game.
Production costs will influence the minimum price the seller will be willing to accept.
On the other hand, what will determine the maximum price the buyer will be willing to pay is the value he will get from the product.
And the sale won't happen if those two don't overlap.

Production costs in themselves bring no value to the consumer: if they'd developed the game on bicycle-powered machines, would that convince you to pay several times the current price for the same game because it drove their costs to the moon?
Would you consider purchasing said game equally as a several times cheaper alternative delivering the same amount of enjoyment?
This game has a horrible generic feel to it. I think you're most paying a high price because David Harbour, whoever that is, is in it.

I wonder how the 2008 game compares to this?
Graphics look nice, but I heard this game was boring as sin.

Most people agree that this game has a good atmosphere and memorable characters but the combat is very weak.

Not really. The game story and characters are enjoyable and the puzzles and exploration gives allot of satisfaction. The combat is the weakest part but it's not the main draw of the game and is still serviceable. Basically don't go into the game expecting heart pumping action ala Resident Evil.

Idk Daymare sandcastle looks better imo. The game is good but not great.
Awkward, this release boosted the old titles into the "beststelling" list on gog's main page, but does not get included itself. x-D

Well, from what I saw in the new game, it just makes me want to play the original again. I mean, the atmosphere is still amazing there and you're really ALONE. The new one has too many other people and too much talking :D

I will buy the new game but not for that kind of money. I'll wait for a bigger sale...

If the bestselling ranking actually reflects the titles currently most sold on the platform, it might also be due to it being at a record high discount, or most likely a combination of both.
