A Triple-A Ubisoft Digital Premiere

They may have been nearly lost since the late nineties, but they're very much alive in game design (and our fond memories) even to this day. Today's triple Digital Distribution Premiere from Ubisoft is not just a set of releases that start with the letter A, it's also a collection of games that introduced something new to their genre, offered a unique combination of playstyles and design choices, or tried something fresh and risky with great payoff.

All three releases are updated to work with Windows 10, and are available in a classic Ubisoft bundle at 20% off!

Anno 1602 A.D. is the one that spawned a series famed for its ambitious mix of real time strategy, business simulation and city building. It's a game that throws you, a pioneer of the unknown, into humanity's most far out frontier to colonise and conquer. Here, you'll find everything from exploration, trading, resource management, diplomacy and even combat - truly solidifying the experience of a true freedom to design your world, and the absolute control to do so your way. Anno 1602 A.D. includes Anno 1602: Creation of a New World and its expansion Anno 1602: New Islands, New Adventures.

Albion is a game that takes classic RPG and Dungeon Crawling, a healthy dose of humor, and risks its dangerous voyage far, far beyond earth into humanity's true final frontier. It's a deep-space adventure that draws bits and pieces from an unusual pairing of titles like The Elder Scrolls and Ultima - all to feature great looking 2D overworld exploration with detailed first-person 3D combat. Its most direct roots, however, stem from titles known as "Amberstar" and "Ambermoon" - two parts of an Amiga trilogy that never came to be concluded. Designed by the original team behind the Amiga classic, Albion is their true spiritual successor in everything but the name.

Archimedean Dynasty takes on one of humanity's biggest, most unfamiliar and inaccessible unknowns: the deep, dark sea. You'll pilot a state-of-the-art submarine to brave the depths and trenches of an underwater colony in turmoil. The bulk of the gameplay will be familiar to veterans of series like X-Wing or Freespace, but it's the absolutely unique setting and atmosphere that truly make this title worth remembering. Archimedean Dynasty soon spawned the AquaNox series, making today's release the final piece of a trilogy unique enough to truly earn a place on anybody's shelf.

Brave the distinct unknowns with the Anno 1602 A.D., Albion, and Archimedean Dynasty bundle, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Wednesday, August 5, 1:59 PM GMT.
Wow, 1998 for Anno? Was it already UBIsoft?

Grargar: New Ubisoft releases! Finally!
Tell me, Smug Cat, how long haven't we seen new Ubisoft release? The curiosity eats me alive :-)

IronArcturus: Wow, I can't believe GOG actually got the prequel to Aquanox! Has anyone tried Archimedean Dynasty before? How does it compare to the other Aquanox games?
It's a brilliant game and controls really well (I have it on CD and have played it recently so it's not just nostalgia talking). I do own both of the Aquanox games too but I got bored of them both quite quickly compared to Archimedean Dynasty. I think they (or at least one of them) have more FPS-style controls which aren't as nice as in AD and I think the 2nd one was full of endless nonsense dialogue which drove me mad!

ne_zavarj: NINA ?

JMich: I assume "New Islands" and "New Adventures".
Yes, exactly that.

Fandi: And since Settlers, Battle Isle, and now Albion is here, the Blue Byte catalogue is nearly complete.
(For me, anyway.)
But I'm still missing the Extreme Assault.

Dear GOG, any news on that one?
Another vote for Extreme Assault from me.

tburger: Truth to be told this particular game looks very good also in software reneder.
Yeah, it is from the era where the 3D acceleration didn't necessarily enhance the graphics quality that much, as the games were originally designed for SW renderer (like in this case, the 3Dfx support came later in a patch I think).

One of the main reasons to want to use 3Dfx back then was to be able to run it in hires (640x480 or so) with smooth speed, something that wasn't necessarily achievable with a software renderer. Nowadays this is less of an issue with these games, they run fast also in SW renderer hires mode.

I recall many people even saying back then they preferred playing e.g. I-War (aka Independence War, also here in GOG) with software renderer because with a 3Dfx cards the detailed textures on some of the ships were not detailed at all anymore, but just fuzzy mess. Dunno...
Wow, what an awesome surprise! 3 of my favorites, finally here. Not just good old games, those -great- old games and must-have classics.
Woot, hope we get all the Anno games!

Fever_Discordia: The first Settlers is still weirdly missing though - GOG has mostly everything from the second one (and it's remake) onwards...
You're right.
I have to be honest, Settlers for me is the original, the sequel (and its 10th anniversay edition). After that, they abandoned the indirect commanding of your people, and that made it more of a bland RTS.

Acriz: Oh boy, oh boy!
Haven't played Anno 1602 since my CD-Rom drive ate my original Anno 1602 CD. A must buy for me. But what about the "NINA" add-on?
how about "In the name of the king" (Im Namen des Konigs)??
Can you hear that faint sound in the distance?
It's the sound of thousands of old school gamers nerdgasming in perfect unison.

Zoidberg: Wow, 1998 for Anno? Was it already UBIsoft?
It was published by Sunflowers, which was bought by Ubisoft in 2007.
