I'm curious to know whether anybody's bothered taking comparison screenshots with the on/off option.

I thank you!
Hello!

Thank you Adamgryu and GOG.com for bringing this little gem of a game here!

I was following its development and release on itch.io, but was hoping it would come here on GOG.com, as well.

The game is a really surprising deviation of the usual "open world" game design nowadays.
I do appreciate the peaceful gameplay that focus entirely on exploration!
And the game makes clever use of elevations to reach formerly unreachable locations, allowing you to climb higher and higher altitudes with every collectable golden feather you will find.
(It reminds me a little bit of the here also recently made available game, Jump King. Although, A Short Hike neither has the potential for frustration nor is as solitary as Jump king. But both share the theme of exploration and climbing/hiking up to the top--which I do enjoy a lot!)

In my opinion the art style is cute, colorful and a lovely homage to the old Playstation One era (luckily without that awful amount of clipping and texture warping). And the game world feels quite cohesive.

For everyone who do not like the overall pixely appearance, you can change the filter settings or even turn it off completely, like omega64 already had mentioned.

Thank you again everyone involved for this great surprise release!

Thanks for that. That looks so much better. I just don't get intentional fugly, head-ache inducing pixelly 3D.

Appreciate the link so I don't have to slog thru "X number of Let's Plays to find one.

I liked the concept but that pixelization was killing it for me.

Now I know it can be "turned off" and the game looks a lot better IMO.

So... Wishlisted. May even buy it (and not wait for more discount)...

[Edit]: Purchased! Looks relaxing.. :)
