Any Apogee or 3D Realms games. Pretty much any 2D platformer.

A few particularly good ones :
- Volgarr the Viking
- La Mulana
- Unepic
- Guacamelee
- Shovel Knight
- Freedom Planet
Gang Beasts is pretty fun with a controller

Firebrand9: - Unepic
Actually, I think that particular game is meant to be played with a keyboard, especially given the ability (and often need) to set hotkeys for various actions.

Snowstone: Do you recommend Enslaved: Odyssey to the West?

omega64: Enslaved works great using a gamepad.
Do you think Enslaved will run on my laptop? I've been wating to try the game for some time, it looks like a great game.

Intel Core i3 1.7GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 820M 2GB Dedicated RAM
4GB RAM
Windows 8.1

It might run it at low, my previous laptop was a little worse in terms of graphic card and little better in terms of CPU. I was able to play at low settings iirc. My previous config for sake of comparison:
CPU: A10 4600M comparison
GPU: AMD 7660G + 7670M Dual Graphics comparison
RAM: 6GB

It might on lower settings, though I wouldn't count on it performing well.

Then just use JoyToKey to assign the keys as you see fit.
It'll cover the majority of the basic controls outside on-the-fly hotkeys.

Playing a platformer with a keyboard though?!? Humph!!

The game (Unepic) does support games, so you shouldn't need something like JoyToKey.

Thing is, I think that game, unlike most platformers, is meant to be played with a keyboard. I note that the game has a slower pace than most platformers and a much smaller focus on actual platforming. In fact, late game on Hard++ mode, I ind that the game boils down to knowing what spell to use at the right time. (In RPGs, there's the "linear fighters, quadratic wizards" trope, which you don't usually see in platformers; this one follows the trope, surprisingly enough.)

It's also worth noting that the game's most infamous boss is actually a puzzle boss. Of note, in that particular boss fight, dodging is not a factor in the battle, which is rather unusual for this type of game.
No platformer is meant to be played with a keyboard. That's a rule. Write it down.

Snowstone: My gamepad is a PSOne controller with a usb adapter.

Grargar: Is your controller a dual shock? If yes, I would recommend Darksiders 1+2 and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.
Do those games work fine with a non-XBox/XInput gamepads (like Playstation controllers)? I think at least the Darksiders games expect an XInput gamepad. Stranger's Wrath was an odd case though, I think its controls were a bit off both in XInput and DirectInput modes, or then its control method is just veeeery weird by default.

Snowstone: What games along the lines of Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), Lego Star Wars, do you recommend?

I have beaten Odyssey so I can give a bit review.

It's rather buggy game. So hopefully you don't get stuck in a nasty game breaking glitch that forces you to restart level, or worse, the whole game altogether.

Other than that, it's a perfect game for controller. You'll enjoy it.

While you're at it, get DmC. It's similar style to that of Odyssey.

Disagree, I prefer Super Meat Boy on Keyboard, Dustforce originally didn't work with gamepads and plays better on keyboards.

I had to install x360ce (xbox 360 controller emulator) to play Darksiders, because as soon as the game started the camera was stuck looking at the sky. After I installed the emulator the game works fine.

My main concern with Enslaved is my laptop, some people have told me that the game should run, other that my laptop isn't powerful enough to run the game.

Isn't DmC like God of War, kill everything in sight?

Ah, right. Been using The F-310 controller for a while so I forgot about it. Still, as Snowstone mentioned above, it's nothing that the X360ce can't solve (the only game that I had an issue with X360ce was Saw: The Videogame). As for Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, yes, the default control mapping is very weird with the F-310, but it otherwise works fine.
