Exciting new stuff for Thimbleweed Park, Man O' War: Corsair, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, and more!

It's a well known fact that after the summer shopping spree is over and what is described by psychologists as "Backlog Guilt" sets in, you are twice as eager to get gaming. But whether you're trying your loot for the first time or you're in the middle of your playthrough, extra content and fixes are always welcome. Here are some titles that got leveled up in the past couple of weeks, in case you missed them:

<span class="bold">Thimbleweed Park</span>
Ron Gilbert's darkly humorous point & click got some cool fixes but the most important additions are the all-new idle conversations between your playable characters and an in-game Hint Line. Just dial 4468 (HINT) from any in-game phone to get those sweet puzzle hints that would put your college fund at risk, back in the day.

<span class="bold">Man O' War: Corsair - Warhammer Naval Battles</span>
A ton of changes and fixes have been implemented in the game, the most important one being a new campaign which lets you play as Nurgle's Chosen and spread the plague all across the Old World. How can this not be fun?

<span class="bold">Vikings: Wolves of Midgard</span>
Plenty of fan-requested features and improvements recently hit this fierce action-RPG. Chief amongst them the couch co-op multiplayer option plus several changes made to the NG+ mode and the Trials of the Gods. Plus the game is now 50% off until next Monday.

<span class="bold">Turok 2: Seeds of Evil</span>
The latest update to the dinosaur-blasting shooter brings Dedicated Server support, as well as DirectX improvements and a few new multiplayer game modes, the InstaRok and New Raptor-Fest.

<span class="bold">Through the Woods</span>
This atmospheric horror adventure just became even more atmospheric, thanks to the completely re-recorded voiceovers for the main character, now provided by actress Malin Pettersen.

<span class="bold">Expeditions: Viking</span>
Quite a few changes and additions: A new "surprise round" feature to allow player positioning before the enemy turn when ambushed, full Danish localisation, three new campsite scenes in the Denmark campaign, new animations for Taunt and Dust abilities, a new generic support ability animation for when you're wielding a spear, and an animation for consumable utility items (ie. potions).

<span class="bold">Death Road to Canada</span>
Fixes and seasonal events galore! Canada Day and July 4th bring recruitable beavers, Uncle Sam, and Muscle Eagle, all of which have special lines and things to say upon death.

So what are you waiting for? Fire them up and check out all that cool stuff!

No, I hadn't noticed most updates, mainly as this is now a Galaxy only feature.

Secondly, I did get the ManOWar update and it is still pretty damn far from beta. Ships flying up in the sky, wonky animations, dodgy controls, ending up telported out into see from town etc. Game is utter tosh. For anyone thinking of buying it, go and play Assassins Creed Black Sail for a working game.
I watched Man O' War: Corsair - Warhammer Naval Battles being streamed on GOG's twitch channel when the update came out, some time ago, and it was buggy as hell. It was probably because the streamer was using a controller -- or at least it looked like that was the issue -- but, still, constantly getting stuck at the helm is a pretty big issue in a naval sailing/combat game. Maybe they addressed it in these few days since they added it, I guess?

So, to answer your question of whether "how can this not be fun?", I'll just say that something can have a fun, entertaining premise, but that fun is completely lost if the execution is bad -- in this case, plagued with a very annoying bug.

As for Thimbleweed Park (which is the only game on this list I own), I'm really loving the new additions. It downright turned one of the best point & clickers I've played in decades into something even better. So that one has my total approval, whatever that may be worth.

[EDIT] It seems I'm not the only one noticing the miserable state Man O'War is in. Thanks for the insight, nightcraw1er.488. I only know what I saw being played by someone else, and what I saw was rubbish. I wouldn't recommend getting it in this state.

GOG.com: Have you noticed these recent updates for your favorite games?
Probably not after you removed the notifications from your website and made them a Galaxy-only-feature. Would be a good moment to bring them back.

Nope, didn't notice any updates. Since the update flags are broken and/or employees can't be bothered to update them, I haven't noticed anything.

Its not got any better. Graphics have minor update, movement is a little better, otherwise all the problems are there.

No I no longer see updates because I don't want to use your totally optional client.

What with the changes to the website, it seems updates are optional™.

Although I will admit it is nice to see GOG actually telling us what they updated for once (despite the fact I have a feeling that this was more thanks to the developers posting this on Steam or their blogs or something than thanks to GOG).

Yep, that escalated quickly.
I would gladly check some updates for Sheltered, Punch Club and other abandoned games.

I, too, would like to see some sort of notification for updated games in my library make a return, on the site.

But I would also like to make something clear: Galaxy doesn't have any notification system for updated games, as well, it's not just the site, like so many people in here seem to think. I get it that it's really cool to hate on Galaxy and refusing to use it, but don't go bashing it for a feature you think it has that the site lost, because that's simply not true. Yes, I do get automatic updates on Galaxy (if I set any game to receive them automatically, that is), but the only "notification" I get is when I check the activity bar and notice that "oh, look at that, game x was updated/is updating". That's it. Galaxy doesn't even have that handy "MY COLLECTION (X) - (X) GAMES UPDATED" when you get updates, that the site has. So, if you received an update for a game you don't have installed, tough luck finding out about it using Galaxy. As an example, SOMA just recently got an update. I own SOMA but I don't have it installed. I only found out about the update because I regularly check my library on the GOG website, for the very reason of keeping up with which games received updates.

So, while we can all agree GOG could do with some sort of notification system, let's not be too hasty when it comes to talking about Galaxy out of our ass.

Instead of fixing notifications for their website GOG post a thread about updates for the few unworthy customers who refuse to use Galaxy... That's typical for GOG! :D
