Has anyone tried playing older games on the raspberry pi 3?

Depends on what you call "older games" ... have Retropie on it to play old Amiga games. Works very well, but haven`t used for quite some time.

I'm looking to play win 95 games on it.

Well I guess that the first thing is that they'll have to be windows 95 games that can also run on linux - unless you're using an emulator. Second, they'll have to not be to graphics heavy and not require any libraries that aren't supported by rasbian.

No real chance as x86 needs to be emulated and therefor its much workand would probably be very slow and lack ram in the end.
You cannot run Windows 95 games on the Pi 3. It's impossible, as the Pi 3 doesn't run on an x86 compatible processor. The ARM processor is far too slow to support WINE's ARM-to-x86 compatibility layer

You CAN run a limited number of DOS games on it through DOSBox, although it takes a lot of shortcuts with scaling to conserve system resources and therefore looks a bit ugly. I've run Jurassic Park, Might & Magic 2 and Soccer Kid with reasonable success this way. Forget anyway 3D games.

You CAN also run some games through source ports. I've managed to run Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake in this way. You can also play games through ScummVM on a Pi 3.

In essence, if you're looking to play games on the Pi 3 that you cannot play on a PC, you're shit outta luck. Everything that you use to get old PC games running on a Pi 3 is available on the PC anyway. But it is a great device to hook up to a TV and play emulated games and source ports on.

As far as I can tell, your best bet to run it on RPi3:
1) Install Raspbian & Wine
OR
2) Install RetroPie, the Pixel UI, and Wine

I've seen some videos of people playing UT99 (playable but not liquid smooth).

Ports (zdoom, ioQuake3, tyrQuake, darkplaces (quake) ,Dxx-Rebirth, eduke32, sdl4wolf) are your best bet,
followed by ScummVM then an Amiga emulator (AmiBerry is pretty good) then Dosbox. I too had good success with these.

Here's the RetroPie wiki page:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki

& here's a link to a thread I made a while back (will be adding an update to it sometime soon):

edit:
Win95 games are a pain to run even on today's PCs... patches (official or otherwise),engine ports, ScummVM, Dosbox, & ResidualVM (for 2-3 games) is what I would look for. When all that fails, a Win95 VM is last option & it may work well with respect to compatibility but your millage may vary.

ExaGear Desktop costs a few dollars, but it will emulate an x86 processor on an rpi3. Many mixed reviews on it out there, but i can speak from experience and say it will most likely run your win95 games. Ive had success running Neverwimter Nights, Arcanum, the Might and Magic series, Wizardry 8 and more utilizing ExaGear and wine. I heard a lot of pepple nay say the pi's ability to run neverwinter nights but still accompliahed it. Overclock the processor (look up guides, not a feature native on rpi3) then activate hardware acceleration and ExaGear ( now compatible with RetroPie!) And start that game up in wine!
Totally not impossible but maybe not practical, I got dosbox running windows 98 on a pi3 and it was very very slow ,daytona usa ran around 4fps, maybe a better idea on the pi4 or a tiny x86 pc. On rpi3 I got quake running in dosbox just out of curiosity and it ran around 10 fps reduced screen size ultra low res very high overclock. Sooooo....maybe not practical unless you have a source ports of the game or requires or dosbox emulating around a 486 dx66 with dosbox anyway

higher end dos games I got running on the pi3 are terminal velocity, fallout1, daggerfall, darkforces, shadow warrior, strife, quake(maybe not worth mentioning),

these games did not run perfect probably had a frameskip of 2 running max cycles, low graphics for in game settings, I wouldn't try it unless you are really bored or have no friends or your friends are into dosbox. Don't mind me I am going to conjure up some dosbox friends goodbye for now.
