The-Business: So lecture + simulation-like game is worse than lecture alone? The professor also said
that players who lost were more likely to draw useful conclusions.
It seems to me that you are either not willing or capable to understand that the computer game Capitalism isn't reflecting the real consequences of our "beloved" economic system. For example when people get fired because businesses merge or manager decide to cut expenses. Or that shareholders who speculate with wares like food - if the game offers this possibility - make the lives of humans who are dependant on this wares miserable.
If students play this game to learn how to run a business, do you really think that they later care for their employees or what consequences their decision have for other people?I doubt that. The only consequence they care about is if they go bankrupt or not. Humans will be most likely just numbers in a spreadsheet for them.
And according to the article you linked the player starts with $6m cash and $5m in their corporation. How many people have that privilege in reality?
The-Business: But yes, move on with the cheezburgers and "viperfdl has the only true world view".
Yeah, just attack me personally. If that is all you can do then that isn't convincing at all. I never claimed to have "the only true world view" but just because I don't share the opinion of the majority doesn't mean that I'm wrong by definition!
The-Business: Oh and by the way, there are racing games used to drive, even race, and shooters to teach tactics and sometimes also shooting.
Although you give no evidence for this claims I can assure you that your typical egoshooter does not teach you how to handle a pistol or rifle safely without the danger of shooting yourself in the foot - or other body parts...
There is more behind handling a real weapon than just reloading and pulling the trigger.
And please show me a typical racing or flight simulation that also simulates the forces on the human body in high speed turns, the psychological stress of the pilot in real situations. And no, the screen going black in flight sims to simulate blackouts doesn't count.
