Gavindale: Hey everyone!! I am in the market for a new PC for Christmas this year, and I have a question that I have been wondering about, something I hope people can answer for me. My new PC will most likely have Windows 11, and I know that a good portion of games from GOG only go as recent as Windows 10, so when that happens, how do you guys recommend I play my Windows 10 GOG games? Can anyone give me suggestions on what to do at that point? I would hate to not be able to play the games I have purchased. Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks so much!!
If I were you, which I am not, I would do this, in this order:
1. Try to run the game in Windows 11.
2. If that doesn't work, google for "<game's name> Windows 11", or even head straight to pcgamingwiki.com and search for your game, and apply fixes that are mentioned there.
3. Failing that, buy an older computer that has Windows 7 or 10 or even XP pre-installed on it, and play those problematic games on it.
4. Failing that, install PCEm or some other PC emulator and install old Windows on it and try to play your game there.
5. Failing that, install Linux and try to get the game working with WINE.
6. Failing that, I'm out of ideas, sorry. Probably nothing you can do at that point, you are totally screwed and your gaming times are OVER! Say bye bye to your games, that is the last time you'll ever see them again!
Here's a funny anecdote: as a small kid, I used to own an Amiga 500 home computer. I so much fretted over not being able to see or play many of its games years in the future that I recorded many of my games on VHS tapes, just so that I can relive playing all those games in the future when I am cranky and old.
Now that I am cranky and old, I just fire up something like WinUAE or FS-UAE and run the same Amiga games I used to play back in the day. Ha! So easy! Screw you, time! You can't take my games from me, I will keep playing them even in afterlife!
