Hello everyone,

I would like to set up Starwars X-Wing (1993) on my HTPC, however I am not sure if I can do this without "installing" the program on my HTPC. Right now I stream media from my network server and I would like to put the game on the server and use an emulator on my HTPC to run the program. This is the first time I have tried to do this so if you have any suggestion I would love to get this going. I am running windows 8.1 x64 for an OS and when I played this game as a kid I was running DOS I think.

DOSBox doesn't strictly require installation at all, and should be able to run directly off the network drive. You'll need to install the game somewhere (because GOG doesn't provide the game without an installer), but then you should be able to simply copy the installed files to the network storage, make a shortcut wherever you want, and run the game. You can finally uninstall the game from wherever you installed it.

Provided you're talking of the GOG release, that is. If you have the game on physical media instead, it'll be a little bit more difficult.

Well you should be able to map a network drive on your server and then if you use dosbox on your HTPC, you could mount the network drive as a virtual drive ( C: ) . You may want tu use a dosbox frontend to manage your config file.... but my feeling is that this will not yield adequate performance.
