It looks like Minecraft Story Mode isn't just being removed from sale, it's being removed from the library of owners as well. At least that is the implication Mojang is making.

I'm hoping it's just unintentionally bad wording on their part, but just in case you should download backups ASAP.
Yeah, but no.
Supposedly...
I'd guess removal from the Xbox Store - hence making sure owners grab it before then.

It won't be removed from GOG / Steam libraries - probably...

As explained in this announcementー"for everyone who purchased it prior to delisting, the game will remain in their GOG library." :)

Out of interest, is there any legal mechanism in which GoG could be forced to remove downloads from owners?

Yes, it has happened in the past. The only time that ever happens is if something calls into question GOG's ability to make the sale in the first place. As in something wrong with the original licensing agreement.

Most of the time though, really virtually always, you get to keep the purchase as long as you've been allowed to complete the transaction.

EDIT: That was ages ago, but a googling will probably find out the name of the title.

Definitely not AFTER you downloaded the game(s) in question.

Which is why you should ALWAYS download your games.

Right, they can remove access to the files on their server or remove the files themselves from their server, but there's nothing they can do about copies you've already downloaded.

This is another reason why they should offer a real client to the software library, one that actually allows you to properly backup everything you've gotten.

I use Free Download Manager to back up everything.

https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

Never had a problem with it.

I used to use that, but it doesn't really solve the problem as I'd still have to go through and manually download hundreds of different files to start and then try and keep on top of what's changed.

It's something that GOG's client should do, but still doesn't do. Instead, I use gogrepo.py, which does a good job of replacing what GOG should have provided.

It's likely bad wording.....GOG would never do that to their users.

If one has a small HDD and a large library this is sadly just a pipe dream(even if one streamlines installers to remove unneeded stuff). :(

Maybe you can edit the thread title to stop the spread of misinformation?

I recall this being the case with the Mac version of certain GOG strategy game? I don't recall the name of the title anymore, but the Windows version was still kept in the store (and users' libraries). Only the Mac version was pulled, also from those who had purchased it.
