I mod first and foremost for myself, but I do like to share my mods with other players. I tend to update them and make new ones when I replay Bethesda games (once or twice a year).

I logged into Nexus this past week to download a mod, and much to my surprise, Nexus required validation for my seven-plus year old account. I realized that I hadn't used the email on file for some years, and the validation disclaimer says that a new account would be required if access to that email had been lost... !

Small miracle - the old email account hadn't been deleted, and I remembered the password, so I was able to validate my Nexus account and update the address on file.

I found the situation annoying since my account is rather obviously not a front for spam - it has eighteen mod uploads - and I wanted to give a heads up to others who might be in a similar situation.

TL; DR - Check your Nexus account and make sure your email address on file is up-to-date, or you might lose access to manage your mods.
Thanks. Was there an info leak or something? Seems odd to require that randomly.

The disclaimer mentioned validation being required now whenever an account is inactive for six months. I uploaded a mod in August 2017, and I've probably logged into the site a few times since to download mods. I don't visit on a regular basis - I'm not constantly playing Bethesda games 365 days a year - but it's not like it's been a matter of years.

I really don't like nexus that much. Just clicked on one skyrim list which I had my eye on as the chap said he was going to update it. Now all of a sudden I have to log into to see the page as it has "adult material" included, even if it's just a list and install order! Don't like their mod manger either. Just feel they are going the way of a mod workshop (not taking bets on gog galaxy mod workshop?).
Moddb has always been my goto for mods (apart from elder scrolls).

It's as annoying when other forums decide to remove your username as a login and then use with your email without proper notice.

The big problem with moddb is that it doesn't have proper standards enforced.

How do I use this mod. There is no info.
Does this mod need something else to work? No info.
Is this a map or a mod or a model or a skin? No info.
What version of the game does this download need? No info.
Is there even a proper ReadMe included. Take a guess.

Yeah, but it's modding. If you want an easy life get a game installer and play that ;op
Yes of course not saying moddb is perfect. But it's easy to find things and comes across more as some lone cataloging what they like as apposed to nexus which like their corporate image, enforces rules and such like.
Anyways there is no need for the one or other, just use whichever.
I think most people recommend NOT using nexus mod manager.

I don't know about the Nexus mod manager, but I have been using their new client vortex (still in development) which works pretty good in my opinion. It took me a bit to figure it out but once I did I I really like having it. It makes it very easy to revert back to a vanilla state after removing a mod, especially with mods that are hard to remove when done manually.
