Thanks for the input so far folks!

I was a collector, still am sort of, i re-bought most of the Snes games i originally had (albeit i had only used carts, except for Zool, Super Mario Allstars & Yoshi's Island (Near perfect!)) and sold them all for a £100 so i could get a used Playstation... (Yes, that's the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot, or more accurately the wallet... or both.)

Oh god! the mistakes we make, that Loaded was ****!

Emulators are a good point tho, and i do use Higan rather than ruin my carts... thinking about it (with the points already made about the PC versions), that does cut down my list dramatically.
Still i think Riven & Myst III: Exile are on my sell list, as for those games i prefer KB&M, besides the PC versions having all the pluses+

Going to have another think on it.. and then comeback to this.

timppu: Plus, the first Tomb Raider allows you to save anywhere on the PC version, while on the PS1 version you are restricted to the save points (or save crystals, or whatever it was...).

tinyE: Actually the 1st five TRs let you save anywhere.
Surely not the first TR on PS1.
Btw, the pc version was so-so.. I don't think that it even had hardware acceleration.
It had a few new sections, though.

I don't know about the consoles, but the PC versions of 1-5 had save anywhere. Funny thing is with #4 they kept the save crystals, but they aren't save crystals. :P They just give you a health boost when you get them.
Yeah TR on the PS1 had save crystals, one of the better parts of the original if you ask me.

I'm not a fan of difficulty, but those things surely made the game more scary and hard.
(one-time checkpoints.. wtf!)

I remember watching my Bro play it, you were always on your toes as you didn't know when the next save point would show up, and beasts could come at you from anywhere! That music aswell.. Such a simple things that added so much suspense.

To me, Tomb Raider will never be as good if they remove the difficulty and suspense of the original. (And it wasn't all that hard, but you would generally die on your first play-through between each save point).

The reboot has a lot of good points, Lara herself being the best version, but it's more action rather than adventure, with no real difficulty, and a lot of cheap trophies to extend gameplay, certainly a lack of puzzle solving too, unless the kinds of puzzles people like are "which shape fits into which hole" equivalents.

Maybe thats just me tho.. (:
I play my ps1 games on my ps3 which upscales the picture to modern tv resolutions.

I think Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat is superior on the PS1. It seems almost like 1.5 version of the game as many of the improvements in sequel, Dark Omen, are present in the PS1 version of SotHR. You can zoom out farther, the obtrusive HUD is gone and replaced with a small UI and the clickable markers on the edge of the screen are present.

I dont even own a PS1 anymore since all my game play in the PS3. I keep them because of the Warhammer games, Tenchu, and Panzer Front (still the best tank game)

For anyone interested in playing the first Tomb Raider on PS3 (the best in my opinion) you have to pop in Tomb Raider 2, then at the Playstation logo, halfway through the sound bite you eject TR2 and put in the original Tomb Raider, if you have music on the menu then it worked.

I think he was referring to the PC version. It had save anywhere, PS1 version had restricted saves. I liked the PC version better for that because it allowed me to try all kinds of dangerous stuff, to check whether I was able to reach some ledge by jumping. If not, then just reload.

After all, the game was about exploration, and save anywhere helped with that.

I think overall the PC version was superior to the PS1 version. It didn't originally have 3D accelerator support on release, but it was added quite soon in a patch for various 3D cards (3Dfx Voodoo included). The GOG version has 3D acceleration too, it uses a 3Dfx emulator for it. This makes the graphics much sharper and cleaner than on the PS1 version with pixellated and twisty&floaty textures.

The only advantage for the PS1 version I can think of was that it had some additional music for some parts of the game while PC version used just some ambient sounds (echoing dripping water drops etc.) for those sections for some reason. However, there are ways to add that "missing" music to the GOG version, instructions in the Tomb Raider subforum.
