Hello,

Since now there is a freeware BIOS available for the PS1 (that comes with the freeware emulator No$PSX), would it be reasonnable to expect / hope PS1 titles (hello Overboard! / ShipWreckers! :-) ) hit the GOG catalog ?

Just like it's the case with other emulated games (DosBox, ...).

NB : the BIOS is embedded in the emu but it's possible to export it. It even works in the real hardware.

Changes nothing, a lot of PS1 games are Sony's property and they need a lot of financial gain before those games are resold and Sony's track record in bringing old games back on pc storefronts is abysmal to say the least.

Also Shipwreckers/Overboard and many more have pc ports already so no emulation needed.

The examples you cite on GOG that are you equating with the examples you are citing not from GOG are actually not "just like" each other, given that GOG's games are legitimately legally licensed to be sold, whereas the other examples you cite are not, and barring Sony directly deciding that they should be (which Sony probably never will decide to license them), they shall continue forever not to be able to be legally & legitimately sold (which means GOG would never even think about touching them).

The release of a new emulator has no bearing whatsoever on those points.

So the answer to your question is, no, definitely not.

For the games produced / published by Sony I agree, but there were also lots of games from other studios that could be sold here.

Ex : Soul Blade, Ridge Racer Type IV, Tekken 3, Tony Hawk 1 & 2, ...

Lots of interesting titles in my humble opinion.

gOg cannot just publish them, as they do not own the rights to the games. you need to contact Sony and ask them how willing they are to put these games on gOg

some of these games alredy have a PC port, so that's not the problme (e.g. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/tony-hawks-pro-skater-1-and-2)

Mostly Japanese developed/published, if they wanted them on pc they would've made ports when they were new.

There are PS1 games that have been brought to pc (which shouldn't have).

As these actually have better pc ports.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this.
Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering which BIOS the Steam version is using...
The following games contain emulated PS1 versions:

https://www.gog.com/game/40_winks
https://www.gog.com/game/glover
https://www.gog.com/game/motor_mash
https://www.gog.com/game/shadow_madness
https://www.gog.com/game/tunnel_b1

As far as I know, none of the above games are using an emulator with bios, so NO$PSX's new non-copyrightable bios wouldn't really improve commercial PS1 offerings. What would improve them is willingness from the owners themselves. Willingness that is likely not there.

For instance, how willing would Bandai Namco (owner of Ridge Racer, Soul Blade and Tekken) be to release their games as emulated PS1 versions, instead of remastering them for a higher price? I would wager not all that much, if you look at what games they have been releasing lately. Just last year, they remastered Klonoa and Pac-Man World, games that were originally released on the PS1. Who knows what other game they might remaster this year or the years to come.

I had not realized there were already games on here that used a PS1 emulator.
