I am a longtime windows Gog user and am trying to load games into my Macbook Pro. I have Ventura 13.4 OS.

Nothing works.

These are the issues:
1. GOG Galaxy downloads but then fails when it tries to start ("Error. Connection to Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! Gog Galaxy will now shutdown). Yes my internet connection is fine (as evidenced by this posting).

2. Almost Every game I try to download for offline play (I've tried Iris and the Giant, Wanderlust, Delores, and Mable) says the version cannot be checked for viruses so it won't install.

3. One game I downloaded will install (Syberia), but it completely freezes when i start it, and the only thing I can do is command-Q

So I am 0/6 so far. Is Mac support just really that bad for Gog? I don't understand. Never had any problems with a PC.
Apparently it doesn't work on newer versions of macOS:

Throw the Mac out and replace it with a real computer; preferably one that isn't running a bastardized & lobotomized version of BSD.

(I mean Linux, by the by.)

But seriously, you're more likely to get the answer you're looking for on the Galaxy subforum.

Apple is extraordinarily hostile to gaming. To legacy* software. To continued support of anything. To people having ownership of their own devices. It's not Darvond being the git.

And Apple defines legacy in terms of something like 2 years.
I have a Mac and I game on it. I don't care about AAA games, mind you.

The problem using MacOS with GOG games is twofold:

1) Galaxy support on Mac is terrible, with no apple silicone version available even if the games themselves are (Neverwinter Nights for instance installs the Intel version through Galaxy but the Universal version through the stand-alone installer).

2) MacOS starting from Catalina dropped support for 32bits software in general, including games, and that means NO software at all works if it's not updated to 64bits. Games like Desktop Dungeons suffer from this, as well as several others like the Shadowrun trilogy. This means that games that might be Mac compatible (as seen on Steam for instance) are shown as not Mac compatible on GOG but when bought you can download the Mac installer (not through Galaxy though). However, as explained, and given you have the latest OS, you can't run 32bit games (you can install them though, weirdly enough).

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN game on a Mac, but are way way WAY more limited on what you can actually play. What does play though, plays just fine (especially on the M1/M2 processors).

My solution:

1) Stop using Galaxy, even though it exists, it might as well be non-existant as the Linux version.
2) Don't bother with games unless they're 64bits.
3) Look for source ports of specific games when available (we're talking Doom games for instance, not something indie of course).

PS: Delores runs just fine on my Macbook with same OS (M1 processor, mind you), Mable too. Giant and Wanderlust I don't have.
